So if inflation stays on this course, we might be able to get enough money together to get to where we want to be.

so what is it..

A secluded island perhaps?
A nice house sitting just off some fairway with 18 stunning holes?
A beach somewhere over looking some spectacular view?
suburbia close to your family?

OK now that is a little sad..

I used to work on a golf course during summer vacations. An old guy would play two rounds every day during the summer starting at 630 am. That is what I would be doing.

Two rounds in the morning.
Coffee and newspaper
stroll around a bit
maybe another round of golf.

I'm quite looking forward to it..

Impossible to say as these are unpredictable changing times we live in, but it's quite easy to tell where my relatives and friends will be. Home where they've always been. For me, could be the streets; could be a house some place or a small studio. I'd rather be sippin' hot coffee the 1st 2 hours of each morning, visiting my friends in the day time, going fishing in the afternoon/evenings, and taking the occassional vacation to an all inclusive resort. And not worry about money.

My brother just got a small fixer upper house on 1 acre in Missouri for $4,500 cash he's going to retire in after having got a settlement from a work injury a year ago, but is still working. While he's only 42, he'll retire early due to diabetes. We anticipate by the time he's 48 to 50 since he's starting to have problems. Luckily he's got a unionized factory job with a pension and full health care in the highly profitable stable company of Con Agra. My sister is set up sweet as her and her husband are in the process of building their dream home since they're hunkering down a healthy $10,000 a month. My other brother already has his retirement cut out as he's already on social security disability due to his obesity from laziness causing him heart problems at the young age of 34. He's happy sitting and eating chocolate brownies in his small junky trailer with his lazy wife on her parents land.

I want a house with a lake and some woods. And enough money! Would love to have 2 places like my best friends rich parents have. One in the tropics and one in the Midwest of the USA, but most of us will not have our cake and eat it too. One set of my grandparents retired in an RV and went to Arizona every Winter. My mother just lives in a small apartment on social security the same as my dad did before he passed away.

if you've spent a lot of time around senior citizens at some stage of your life you'd see that retirement and one's golden years are nothing to sacrifice for!

old people spend a lot of time reminiscing about what they did and didn't do when they were younger, talking about their health and their families, wanting to keep themselves busy doing anything, even meaningless drudgery

the happiest old people i've known are still working in some capacity, are close to their families and still in pretty good health

none seem to care about money or what kind of house they live in or any other material possessions - so sacrificing now to save money to spend on oneself in one's old age is a formula for failure: invest in your family and your health not your retirement fund

and realize that NOW is the best age, not one's old age

Three scenarios:
(1) Retired in Thailand: fishing and snozing most days, and checking my Tom Yung for poison (just in case my 18 year old wife has decided to speed up the process of financing her family's social advancement).

(2) Living in a fishing hut on NZ's (and one of the world's) premier fly fishing rivers. I fish - therefore I am.

(3) The Weather Beater: (a combination of 1 and 2).

Retirement is a gamble. You have to save for your retirement - but when you get there, you find that you don't need a lot of money (as long as your health lasts).

My parents have been retired for many years - and they save money on their govt. pension. I've told my family, that when I die, they'll have to have a whip round for a cardboard box, as I'm leaving nothing behind.
