I like working with my (current) CTs for the most part and think it's great that we can often cooperate on things like exams. But you have to love it when CTs choose the wrong answer to questions you put on the exam (taken right from textbook materials). Today's example:

Mr. Kim is in Daegu and his plane leaves from Incheon Airport in two hours. He doesn't have ______________ to drive to Incheon.

a. the time of day
b. enough time
c. to kill time
d. to waste time
e. time flies

And of the 10 CTs I've worked with the one who got this one wrong is probably in the top 3!

We all make silly mistakes sometimes...maybe just a bad day for your CT?

After four years in K-land, that doesn't surprise me. Laughing

Not the same situation, but similar -
At my school I usually get to check all the English exam questions before they're printed. But this past term's finals had a few questions added/changed that I didn't see before exam day... what a mess! Rolling Eyes Much to their consternation, I love explaining to K English teachers that the students (in some cases) are right. Cool

I would never correct the teachers. They will lose face and hate you for it.

This.

Sample question from this year's final exam:

What type of bird is a bat?

A bat is a bird which loves to live in darkness.

I think he choose D too.

it's a bit tricky because

Quote:
Mr. Kim is in Daegu and his plane leaves from Incheon Airport in two hours. He doesn't have ______________ to drive to Incheon.

a. the time of day
b. enough time
c. to kill time
d. to waste time
e. time flies

It's not clear from the first sentence what his next course of action should be.

b - assumes he's screwed.
d- assumes he shouldn't drive, he should take another form of transportation to the airport.

One could argue that D is a prefectly acceptable answer because it's grammatically correct. Only because he inferred different information from the first senstence doesn't make him worng. Only the communicaiton of the first sentence isn't obvious. The underlying infrences isn't sufficent to make a good conclusion. Between B or D

For example take sentence D. We could tack on another sentence at the end to make it wholly comprehensible.

Mr. Kim is in Daegu and his plane leaves from Incheon Airport in two hours. He doesn't have to waste time to drive to Incheon. He can take the KTX.

Give me a break. Don't write sentences you aren't 100% certain of. Takes 30 seconds to look it up on the Internet.

Bats are mammals.

It looks like you just copied the Batman symbol and drew fangs on it.

Yeah birds lay eggs, bats don't.

You better revise that final question.
