Thanks to Mith at KB for all the hard timely work on translating her pieces. It really looks like she got duped by some guy pretending to be a fake degree peddler.

http://news.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2009/07/02/2009070201412.html

Here's the videos she's talking about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDJ0pN20nOo&feature=related

My guess is that this guy's not even in Korea and is having great fun at the expense of both Koreans and expats posting this stuff. If I'm wrong, well, many apologies to Miss Choi, but I'd be willing to bet her a month of her intern's salary she's just made an astounding fool of herself even by Korean journalists' standards.

Gaaaah...I need to learn how to read Korean.

For the time being, a Korean -> Japanese translation from Google should be reasonable accurate...

Here's my guess about Andy from Vancouver (the guy whose blog and youtube videos seem to be creating a bit of a storm)

He's acting.

If it turns out to be a hoax, I wonder if we'll get a frontpage apology and retraction. You know, to go along with the four hit pieces that have been atop the Chosun Ilbo site. Nah, didn't think so.

This crap with the "unqualified" teacher is but one of a series. Clearly she's being fed lines by the Anti-English Spectrum. It's one thing to rant about minorities on a blog or messageboard, it's quite another to spew your hate on the website of one of the most-read national newspapers in the country.

I can see how this guy could dupe a young naive Korean but there's one pretty obvious flaw in his story: he's selling fake degrees so people can get jobs, but then mocking those who work at institutions by boasting about how much one can make doing privates, for which one doesn't need a degree anyways. But I suspect that logic and critical thinking weren't a big part of Miss Choi's journalism course.

Here's Miss Choi's newest offering. Possibly more credible but sure not as sensationalistic.

Oh man. When you look at the anonymous comments, it's obvious who wrote them. Too funny.

You're welcome, but it's not Mith, it's me. Mith still helps out but is mostly busy doing his own stuff these days - check out pagef30.com.

The Anti-English Spectrum organization is just one of the organizations that financially benefits from creating lies about legal foreign teachers in Korea. There are others,

As for the idea that he created all of those videos to assist the Anti-English Sprectrum wackos, well many would be surprised to know how many worthless sack of crap westerners gladly help crooked hagwons and/or scumbag recruiters for a few thousand won and a chance to give the bossman a massage and Brazilian bikini wax at the sauna. Would one of these losers make up some videos to help his hagwon master and the Anti-English Spectrum crowd? It was probably his idea. Rolling Eyes
