The iPhone is always "1 month" away. What's the point. You buy an Apple product and your pretty much guaranteed to have your item be outdated within 5 months.

How's that? You mean in terms of them always upgrading their products? IMO the utility of the 3GS will take more than 5 months to be outdated. They always make things bigger and faster, it doesn't mean that phone you bought is junk.

But are you really getting anything more then faster speed and a marginally better camera on the 3Gs, that you couldn't do with a 3G and OS3?

Is there any difference between the Korean version of the I-pod touch and the USA version? They are about $40 cheaper in the USA, I think. Are there any differences in wifi capability and such?

Would it be better to purchase one of these apple products in the USA than Korea? Say if you wanted an .mp3 player with internet wifi capability?

Nope. I bought mine in Japan. They're all the same, completely international, full english, etc.

If the I-phone comes out in Korea, there is NO WAY IN DANTE'S COLD HELL that it will be very functional compared to models abroad. People would buy them like hotcakes to circumvent the overpriced Korean control of anything internet on phones -- so they will be crippled, while some Samsung or LG model will be magically allowed to do more.

This is part of the reason why Korea has stalled on allowing these things to come in in the first place.

Hardware becomes obsolete once software stops being developed for it.

And with Apple hardware it is less likely to become obsolete as quickly as other tech devices. This is because there are already over 50,000 apps that one can use for their first generation iphone, with many developers still making apps that are compatible with the first gen iphone.

So your wrong, the hardware is not outdated, as just updated.

Before you jump on the 3GS bandwagon take a look around at the internet and you'll see certain weeks seems to have faulty hardware.

There is a well known "15Khz" problem and varying shades of "yellowness" to the screen. No one knows how widespread the problem is. There has also been reports of an excessively hot battery (seems to be mainly in the white 3GS), possibly going to need a recall.

Might be a good idea to wait until the hardware faults are at least partially sorted out.

Being an early adopter of ANY technology not just the 3GS comes with its price both in dollars paid and potential bugs.

The iPhone does have power, it's fact and it shows in how there is a shift in the Korean telecoms such as KT and SKT happening in their business models. They are now developing "app stores" pure clones of the Apple App Store and hopefully creating more economical web/data rate packages. All this because of the iPhone's "imminent" arrival in Korea. Pretty powerful i'd say if it can change an entire market just like that.

It looks like we will have to wait a little longer.

Korea Times is reporting an August release.

I am currently in the states, looking to make the move to Korea sometime at end of August/early September. I have an iPhone here (US model) and I was curious to know if it will be possible to use my iPhone in Korea?

I've seen all these posts about the iPhone coming to Korea, but what about those of us that already have one and could bring it there? Will it still work okay?

No.

The article from this thread should answer your questions.

If Korean telecoms cripple the wi-fi capabilities of the iphone, the iphone will fail in Korea.

If they leave the wi-fi capabilities free, the iphone is going to sell like hotcakes.

Look at the ipod touch, Koreans are buying it in droves here because of the free wifi capabilities.
