|
|
My Public School want me to take a week holiday, followed by a week of desk warming, followed by a week holiday. I have already booked my holiday for two weeks during the week of desk warming and the following week. I fully intend to take it as cutting short a holiday to desk warm is ridiculous, especially as I am taking no more holiday than I am entitled to..
I don't think it will come to getting fired but the worst case scenario is that I would get fired for taking the holiday.
If a teacher is fired, what is the process. Does getting fired automatically give you a letter of release? Do you have to leave the country?
I am not expecting this to happen but just checking out the worst case scenario. |

Can't you just desk warm for a week and then take 2 weeks holiday and everything works out?
There must be more to this than you are letting on.. |

I have never heard of a teacher getting fired from a PS. Did you OK your vacation time in advance? If so, just tell them to go to hell.. |

There really is no more than what I'm letting on. The summer vacation schedule is:
3 weeks of Summer School
1 week of vacation
1 week of Summer School
1 week of vacation
They are saying we should take the two weeks of vacation with desk warming in between. I have said my holiday is booked and that I can move my desk warming around. They are "considering it".
There really is nothing more than that. The scheduling is ridiculous!
I am sure everything will be fine in the end... |

I'm sure I won't get fired for going and I'm sure everything will be fine. I'm just asking out of interest. I told them my vacation plans this week as we are supposed to give 15 days notice.
They are saying that all the teachers should take a week off, a week on and then a week off. The week on for me would be desk warming... |

This is true.
Just keep sucking your teeth and saying "Oh, very difficult". It will work out in the end. |

You should've told them in advance what you are doing. But just put it down to a mis-understanding and hold your ground. |

By Summer school, you mean camps? You aren't teaching the camps right...? If that's the case, I can't see why it matters when you spend a week at school deskwarming? |

I replaced a guy at my public school who was fired after a week. Apparently he was drunk all the time, would go home for naps in the middle of class and watch movies by himself at the front of the class instead of teaching. They gave him notice and then he stole a bottle of soju from a Ministop and the police demanded that they send him out of Korea immediately. So it can happen. |

Kinda sounds like he 'wanted it to happen', but who knows? |

Hey OP,
Question. Did you know this schedule (the one you wrote above) before you bought a ticket for two consecutive weeks? Or, did the school say it was okay to go, then (as schools here often do), change it to this set-up? |

Yeah I did know but I also knew it was for desk warming and that I could not get tickets at good times for the other weeks. I told my co-teacher that I wanted two weeks together and he thought it'd be ok.
I bought the tickets and informed them well before the 15 days required. The contract says that "vacation can be taken at any time the school is not in session".
I suppose it could be read that the school is "in session" if some teachers have classes but my interpretation is that it is the summer vacation period and I have no classes. |

Learning to do this can get SO MUCH done in Korea. |
