I've never had a problem with cockroaches being in my apartment before. I just moved into my new places 3 days ago. It's a half basement apartment in Haebangchon. I've seen and killed about 3 each night. I'm not afraid of them but they make me sick thinking about the diseases they carry and if they're pooping in the kitchen!
I keep a clean house and don't leave any food out but I'm getting my rabbits back in two days and will have to leave their rabbit food and vegetables out and I can't bear the thought of these little roaches getting into their food!
HELP ME PLEASE.
Should I call an exterminator? Set Raid traps all over? I wonder if they're harmful to pets (the raid traps and fumes)?
It's not a serious problem but I don't want it to become one and I just never want to see another in my place again! |

3 a night..that's quite a few. I lived in absolute squalor and I at most would have 1 a month. They don't seem to reproduce quite as rapidly as the small ones in America. In fact, I think we usually call the Asian cockroaches "water bugs."
I used the glue traps and caught a couple that way. Completely non toxic. I heard there are some common household items (try google) that you can spray on any cracks etc around the house that will stop them from coming in.
Or try this roach trap (dunno if this works): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegas_roach_trap |

Personally, I'd be more worried about the rabbits' poop and smell ... |

When I lived in Korea I never saw a cockroach in my apartment until the Koreans next door moved out. Then all of a sudden they were everywhere. I went into the empty apartment next door and it became clear why. The place was a pigsty. When the Koreans lived in it the roaches lived like kings. When the Koreans moved out the roaches moved next door! o, I went to a hardware store and bought some expandable spray foam. I then sprayed every crack I could find: underneath the kitchen cabinets, along the floor, the ceiling where it met the wall, you name it. If there was a gap, I plugged it. It worked. The roaches had no way in and they went somewhere else. |

Definantly Spray foam and glue traps.
I don't know about in Korea, but when we had an exterminator come around, instead of fumigating the place, he left these little goo things that really did the job. They ate it and basically died. Of course, if you have a kid or pet who eats everything, that might not be a good idea. |

had the same issue my first year in korea... nightmare to say the least. the thing that all but eliminated them were those bombs... you vacate your place for a day, set those off and the roaches will want nothing to do with your place... takes a few days for the smell to go away but it worked. |

Just pretend they are vetu little chiuauas (sp?). And you can even name them. You will soon love them so much that you will want more and more. |

Lay the little Raid traps (they eat the poison) and get some caulk to seal up the place. Gel has been proven the most effective method of long-term riddance, so put that around both inside and outside your place. This can be bought everywhere.
It will take a while to get rid of them this way, but it works. |

Boric acid,. Crush it down fine if it isn't already a powder. Sprinkle it here and there. Lay it thin. Roaches walk on it, take it home, and die.
Three, four weeks, five tops, they're all gone.
Bay leaves keep 'em away. A few leaves in the cupboard, here and there...

Right now I have these little bastards crawling around. |

Interesting typo.
I meant "very" not "vetu". "Vetu" is French for dressed. No, I do not dress mine up. But, maybe I should try? Do they make cockroach clothes?
And, put bay leaves around here and there. That chases them away.

I did not see this when I posted about the bay leaves. So, there are two of us that know this. And now in Korea they have bay leaves in many stores. |

The frickin goo crap works the best it looks like a large syringe you can buy them at korean pharmacies of all places. get it in every crack and they'll be gone instantly. be careful not to get it on your skin though |
