Is there any benefit to applying to schools in the satellite cities as opposed to schools in Seoul as far shadiness of schools, living conditions/apartment size, pay, pollution, and so forth? I don't know whether I want to focus on applying to schools in Suwon etc or Seoul. Also, what's the best, most fun satellite city to live in with easy access to Seoul? I've heard Suwon is one of the better ones, and from what I've seen in photos/videos it looks to have the best night life. Am I off in that assumption?
Or am I just better off applying to schools in Seoul since I'm most interested in living in a large, vibrant city where I'll never run out of stuff to do? Maybe this thread is partially more appropriate for the general 'living in Korea' board, but I think at the moment I'm concerned mainly with the quality/reputation of schools I'll be applying to. |

I'd choose to live in Ilsan over Seoul in an instant. I'd rather not live in Bucheon, Suwon, or Bundang though. They're pretty varied places price-wise and atmosphere wise, so you might be best digging up individual threads on whatever area you're interested in. The ones I've mentioned are the more common ones where teachers live. |

What do you like about Ilsan over Seoul? And how long does it take to get to Seoul from Islan? |

Would you rather live in New York....
Or New Jersey...
Most sane folk would say New York if they could afford it and had free housing.....A few would choose New jersey... |

Well, like I said, part of what I was asking is if school/job situations is better in the outer cities than in Seoul, if it's easier to avoid sketchy schools. |

No....just research your school, call past teachers, and review the contract carefully and you'll be fine....worst case senario is manangement changes to a bunch of a A-holes or the FT there lied to you....inwhich case, finding the really good jobs is far easier once your in Korea and have connections....just switch jobs... |

same here. Ilsan all the way. Lake Park is a really great area to go for a walk and you have La Festa and E-mart etc for grocery shopping etc.
Bundang I am not sure about but ilsan in my opinion is way nicer to live in than Suwon and Bucheon.

depends on where in Ilsan you live. I lived by Madu , by bus......well there are Express (red) buses that go to the likes of Gangnam/City Hall/Sinchon etc......for example to Sinchon, it takes around 30 mins, less time in the late evenings......
By subway it takes about 50 mins (from Madu) to get to the likes of Sinchon (including transfer). Not bad, but I didnt really take the subway as bus is way faster
there are also the KTX operated trains if you live way outside the main part of Ilsan (ie: outside the subway line areas)......again, pretty fast to the centre of Seoul |
