My best lifts (at a body weight of 235lbs)

4 plate bench
7 plate squat
5 1/2 plate dead

Now, I'd be lucky to pick up the bar without the shakes. lol

((and I'm only about 190lbs))

I call bullshit. Very Happy You are telling me at 190, you were benching 405lbs? Dude, we've met and you are thick, but I don't you're that thick! Shocked

And how the hell do you squat 7 plates? You need an even number of plates. Question

Also, if you see guys benching more than three hundred pounds free weight in the gym, look at their age and their builds and their skin. If they are free of acne, have clear skin, have a well rounded build and are benching three hundred plus pounds, you can pretty much assume they are natural. Now, when you see a guy benching 350lbs free weights, you have to start to look a little closer. Most natural weight lifters hit their plateau around 300lbs to 380lbs. If you see a guy benching 400lbs or more, it is rare, but it is still highly probably that he is natural. The 450lbs are almost certainly steroid induced especially if the guy is twenty years old. It takes years to build that kind of technique and muscle mass to bench that kind of weight naturally. After spending almost thirty years in gyms all over the world, I've only seen that kind of bench press once or twice. For the average natural fella, 300lbs is big, especially in Korea.

i would agree with you that you shouldnt jump to conclusions too quickly about someone being on the juice.

as i said before, 250 pounds is nothing to speak of. i can do sets of 4 on 225 pounds and i am light. if you saw me with a shirt on you might not think i can lift anything at all! i weigh 76kg now and im a runner. imagine what a solidly built dude can lift if i can do 225 sets of 4?

yeah, 300pounds easy.

i hate it when people just say steroids!! steroids!! when they dont know what they are talking about...

to the op:

if i wanted to get serious and increase my numbers and i hit the wall like you said you have, i would do the following. and i know what works..

1) stop all cardio.

2) increase my protein intake by 50%.

3)reduce my carb intake.

4) eat sugar immediately before workout. maybe mars bar or snickers.

5) 8 sets: 1 warm up set of 10
1 set of 8
2 sets of 6
1 set of 3
2 sets of max lift.
1 set of 10 again.

i would work out 5-6 days a week. chest and shoulders 1 day, legs and back the next day, arms and everything the third day. but the third day the weight is reduced markedly.

you could add lots of variations as well.

6) i would eat shed loads of food!! understand? shedloads of food. food is very important. i would increase my food intake by 100%.

the idea is to give yourself lots of energy and lift heavy. build up to the max lift up to the last set.

7) MOST IMPORTANT! EVERYTHING WORKS, BUT NOTHING WORKS FOREVER!

ps. but i love cardio, so i wouldnt do it. but what i have said is most of it. any pros can add what they like to what i have said Cool

pps. what i said in #5 is the same for most muscle groups

I would change that to bananas. They start working so fast is amazing...and without the other crap that a chocolate bar has.

Sorry mate, I think you may be reading it wrong - at 235 I benched 4 plates a side. here's my (lame) attempt at 5 plates - http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/2981/5platebench.png

As for the 7 plates... that'd be 7 plates a side - outside of the rack.

Ah, and just for those lifters out there that dig Ronnie, here's me (left) metting him in 2000 http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3410/edronnierob.png

In my twenties my body weight was 65kg. I benched 85kg. How's that? I thought it was quite alright for a guy who never really got into the weights thing at all.

hauwande, respectfully I see your point and I see the error in my words. The point I guess I was trying to make is that there is a huge difference between benching 225lbs and benching 300lbs. I didn't say that a guy is on juice for doing 300. In fact I said that most natural bodybuilders will reach their plateau somewhere between 300 and 380lbs. It doesn't seem like a big jump, but it is. And if someone can do more than that without juice, I said that you might want to be suspicious. It's like Usain Bolt running a 9.8 100 meter dash; there are a lot of guys who regularly run 9.95s, but would give their first born son to run a sub 9.9. Just like you may do your four reps at 225lbs, but you might not be able to ever do three reps at 240lbs no matter how hard you train. I'm not saying that you personally couldn't do that, but the average natural guy who has been weightlifting for years and is in peak form, may not see his bench press increase more than twenty pounds in his lifetime.

Dang Dude. I thought I did meet you. Seeing your picture, I realize I met someone else. That's why I was like no way that short dude built a little more than me is lifting that weight. My bad.

Actually, we did meet in a burger place about two years ago.. but I had to cut out early and we barely talked.

No worries though, if you read the fine print of my post, I couldn't bench my way out of a wet paper bag now. lol

Just a question for those of you who love bulking up: Why?

Do you think it looks good? Does it actually help you in your daily lives? Personally, unless I were a dairy farmer or something, I'd think having that excess mass would only be hassle to both carry around and maintain.

I wouldn't mind, however, maintaining a more cut body, which is what I'm trying to achieve the moment. I used to lift lots of weights and got caught up in getting stronger, but I realized there wasn't any real point. I know I didn't look good, but then again, I was pretty damn overweight then.

I've lost a considerable amount of weight and my six-pack is just beginning to show now. My goal for now is to get cut. I think, for me, that's a lot more satisfying than increasing your weight-lifting capabilities. I'm also interested in mixed martial arts, so I'd like to get a leaner body.

So I'm just curious as to why people love getting so big and bulky.

Obviously, Jay Cutler is an extreme case of bulking up, but he seems out of breath at the end of his S L O W shopping run in which he has his buddy push the cart around.

Personal choice. I enjoyed the size - the sheer aesthetics of it.

Yeah you look like you could lift some poundage but there's a big difference between an "attempt" and taking a picture in front of a lot of weights.

Hey (takes picture next to a thousand pounds) I just lifted a thousand pounds and here's the proof.

Sorry, you walked into that one bro.

Oh, for sure man - I'm not claiming to have benched that (it was 5 plates). I took the picture before i tried to bench it - 'twas not successful. lol

If ya read up in the quotes, you can see the numbers I've posted.
