|
|
Hi all: I have decided to go and teach in Korea. I know I will be using an agency and just REALLY want someone/anyone to recommend one, two, you know. I had to back out of a contract three years ago because of a family emergency and just felt awful for the recruiter.
Also, I don't expect a ton of money but would like to save some to bring back home. About me, journalist for 15 years, English degree, getting online certificate, not prone to culture shock. I am looking for a medium-sized city that has a few ex-pats in case I get homesick.
I want to do this really well, make an impact, travel a little. I am in my fifties. However, according to pretty much everyone, I "skew" much younger because of my extremely outgoing personality, style (and musical tastes I guess)
Any thoughts as to agency or city? I really am doing other research, honestly. I also plan a tour of Buddhist temples as I am Buddhist, not a particularly good one, but one nonetheless.

Post your resume on this site, and other esl websites. Make sure the you create another email address, because you will be swamped with emails. DON'T give them your phone number on your resume, as you will be getting calls at ungodly hours.
Use as many recruiters as you can. You will find something that suits you. Don't stick to one recruiter and place your hopes and hapiness in them. They just want a commission.
As for the city, it depends on what you want. Seoul and Pusan are the most sought after cities. But, there are other cities that are quite nice, depending on what your interests are. If you are highly interested in the music scene then I suggest Seoul or Busan.
You can expect a salary of 2-2.5 mil depending on whether you go public or hagwon. Hagwons, for the most part, pay more, but don't offer as much holiday. Also, there are shady hagwons out there, so do your research on the jobs that are being offered to you. Always talk to current teachers. (on the phone if possible, while boss man isn't around.) |
