You know what you're talking about. Such a sexy, sexy car. And powerful, too.
By the way, is that Ebi-chan in your avatar? |

It's fascinating I think if you're a noob...but any amount of time spent in the foxhole..you realize how much "sameness" there is.
Walk down your street...you are guaranteed to see these landmarks.
PC 방, Fried Chicken Place, 전통중국성 style restaurant, Paris Baguette, Kimbab Nara, Tall Buildings with flowers on the sides, Old men smoking thin cigarettes, etc.
Now walk down another street in a different part of your city...you will see a variation of the same things on your street. Yes....its so fascinating. |
That's one thing that really gets me about cities here. They look exactly the same. One neighborhood in Seoul looks exactly the same as any other. Go to another decent sized city any you see exactly the same thing. Its like no businesses try anything different or contractors try to make their buildings look somewhat different from every other building. Same for the rows of ajummas selling exactly the same soondae or dukboki. Which is why I like Hongdae and Itaewon. At least those places have businesses that try something different once in a while. |

I also appreciate Korean cars, especially when not driven by Koreans.
Actually I appreciate any car not driven by a Korean. Gives me that nice warm feeling of being able to cross the street safely. |

I'm not the world's biggest lover of Korean cars, but I have come to appreciate them the more I'm here and the better they get...not only that I'm not a mean person, I like to cheer them on.
So my picks for Korean cars.
The mighty Pride: the old one based on the Suzuki Swift is a great little car. The new one is a great little econo box with good gas mileage. Not as nicely packaged as some German and Japanese econo paxes, but I very nice little set of wheels.
The Click (or Getz): Again another nice little econo box (this time from Hyundai). Looks nice enough and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I think this car is Hyundai's best selling car in Europe.
The Forte: KIA has finally made a car that looks good. The first time I saw it I thought it was a Honda. They have finally got to the point where they don't look like second rate cars. This car also comes as a hybrid....I want one but the waiting list is a tad on the long side at them moment.
I think Korean cars are really where its at for small economical cars, even back home, although back home I might be more likely to buy a Golf...my all time fave little econo box. Awesome car, great design.
I'll give a knod to the Genesis, but not my cup of tea...big silly expensive sedans. Or the Sante Fe, best selling SUV in Canada. Again, I have no need for an urban assault vehicle. If I need 4 wheel drive I'll buy something for thrashing off road, not a city friendly piece of wank.
I miss my old Chevy truck...what a beast, and tough as nails all the way to 300,000km, those were the days, biking, skiing, thrashing through the woods. I hope Korean auto manufacturers never make one of these. They've become the wackest symbol of man hood in North America. |

What do you mean expensive? For what you get, it's really quite a spectacular value. 30k compared to it's 70k peers?
It's a bit expensive in GENERAL terms of spending money, but certainly a one of a kind deal for people with a decent salary looking for an economical luxury vehicle. |

What's going on here? Is this post supposed to be in defense of Koreans and was my post supposed to a criticism of Koreans? |
Honda makes the Accord, not Ford.
Just teasing for not knowing the difference. |

I took a look at the Genesis last year. It's a nice car that is a game changer for Hyundai and I'm looking forward to seeing how they are going to price the Equus in comparison. What I didn't like were the Hyundai salepeople who have NO idea how to market a $40,000 car. They are much more used to peddling $13,000 cars and it shows. |

The Genesis does look pretty nice. I've also always liked the look of the Tiburon as a decently priced sports car. |

| When I go on to the road here in the states, most of the cars are Hyundai, Kia, Honda, or Toyota. I occasionally see a lifted ford/chevy. |

I'm just one of those people who doesn't really see the need for that type of car. It's nice and I'm glad Hyundai is making more than econo boxes...but I'm just an econo box kind of guy.
In my opinion the Golf or the old Civic hatch backs are the pinnacle of cars made for the real world. So I like that Hyundai and KIA are econo box makers. The hatch back, the mini wagon (the 5 door), the mini sport wagon, are all the most space for the buck while still being more fuel efficient than bigger cars. Easy to park, fun to drive and zippy with the right engine.
On that note, my dark horse pick is the Hyundai Lavita, a strange looking thing, but it's grown on me. Its a small car, but really spacious inside and perfect for weekend get aways with a load of gear. Amazingly spacious little car, love driving in it.
And the Damas: ugliest or cutest thing on the road. Get a natural gas one and you have one of the cheapest things to run...someday these things should be all electric. Really a perfect little people and stuff mover. A friend of mine had a bed in the back and used his like a camper. He threw his snow board or moutain bike in the back and hit the slopes every weekend.
And I guess I need to mention the i30 CW. I like it, but really its kind of ugly compared to even some of the older 5 door cars from Japan. It's not bad, but still not really up to my expectations for it's looks. |

My Santa Fe isn't four wheel drive. In fact, I don't know of any Santa Fe's that are four wheel drive.
It's the diesel engine that I love. The purrrrrrrrrr. They last forever.
In the States and Canada, all they have are gasoline models.
I got a diesel engine plus all the amenities--sunroof, television, gps, reverse camera--for right around 25 million won. What does that come to? 23 thousand dollars.
Sweet. |

i bought this spring a Black 2005 Korando jeep with tinted windows and leather seats and nice silver detailing and only 60,000-odd km on the Mercedes-Benz designed diesel 2900 cc turbo engine am lovin' it ... have put over 5000 km on it in under three months
the only other Korean made vehicle I was really tempted to get was a new model QM5 SUV I saw on the street last winter, the QM5 being an idea by Renault, developed by Nissan and built by Renault Samsung Motors in Korea
until most recently, Korean sedans have been ubiquitously boring as hell and indeed as indistinctive as the architecture of Korean cities

The QM5 is beautiful. Financially, I just couldn't swing it. |

Hyundai Rolls Out First Hybrid Car
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/biz/2009/07/123_47825.html

| Under a formula assuming 20,000 kilometers (12, 428 miles) in annual driving, Hyundai estimates the new car would produce fuel savings of about 1.35 million won each year, based on current prices at the pump. |
Better for your pocket, better for the environment. A no-brainer..............
.................unless you're a redneck or have the mind of a 12 year-old boy and need to drive a gas-guzzling monster. |
