Hi. First post here.

I've searched the net and most of the information regarding CRB, notarised documents etc. seems to be for the American market. So I'm hoping that someone can give me some information specific to UK citizens.

I need to apply for the E2 visa. Does anyone know which kind of check I need??? I found a website http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/ that can do a basic check for �20. Will this be sufficient? If not which level of check do I need, and is it possible to visit a police station to do this rather than having to wait X number of days/weeks for something in the post?

Secondly, how do I get a degree certificate notarised, and does my CRB check also have to be notarised?

im in same boat.
apparently a basic disclosure from disclosure scotland is ok.
if you vist ur police station, you will wait 2 or 3 weeks too and it is a subject access request. an arrest for drink drivin is on mine so i will apply for disclosure scotland instead.

i fink u need to notarise it and apostille

Do you mean notarise and apostile the criminal records check? What about my original degree certificate? I have seen that some schools actually want this to be notarised too.

Disclosure Scotland is fine. Unless they've changed the regulation since March when I got my E-2. It's quicker than a 'subject access' (I think) so just go ahead and fill in the form. It also doesn't show up as much (per previous poster).

Both the CRB and the degree need to be notarised then apostilled at Milton Keynes (some gov. department). You notarise a copy of the degree and the actual CRB. The solicitors in the same building (front entrance to the left, I think) will do both for 5 GBP each. Then go and get them both apostilled - this costs a fair bit, 1 hr+. You send the notarised + apostilled copy of the degree and the notarised + apostilled actual CRB.

You can post the documents to this gov. department if they're already notarised - it'll take longer.

Thanks again for the replies. It seems that different schools and recruiters ask for slightly different things with regards the notarisation (hey is that even a word?) and apostilisation (that too, surely these words are made up?) of documents. So I may as well get everything done, just in case I end up being accepted by one of the more fussy places.

Is is usual to have to get the criminal records thing notarised AND then apostiled? If so, can I get this notarised (which i'm hoping means just signed by a solicitor or something) locally before sending it to Milton Keynes (yes, I sure as hell don't want to waste lots of time and money travelling there if at all possible)???

As for my degree, as a previous poster said, I should just get a copy of this notarised/signed, but by that do you mean just a photocopy, not a whole new copy of my degree???

I used disclosure scotland and they were really good/fast - would recommend.

You have to get the CRB check from disclosure scot to a solicitor along with your university certificate to get them notarised because the FCO won't apostille them unless the docs have been verified by a UK solicitor.

I'm going to go for Disclosure Scotland then, as that seems the most efficient and lowest priced option that will get me what I need.

Once again though, do I need to get my actual degree certificate notarised or just a photocopy/print out?

Photocopy of the degree. You'll need to take the original with you when you get it notarised. As I said, the place in Milton Keynes charges 5UKP per notarisation - you may not be able to find it as cheap at all.

Yes a photocopy of your degree certificate, which needs to be notarised (send the original to the solicitor as well for proof) and then get it apostilled at the FCO.

Don't get notarisation and apostilling mixed up, they are two diferent things done by two seperate 'people'

Does it have to be a listed public notary (as found on this website http://www.thenotariessociety.org.uk/) who has to notarise a document, or can it be any practising solicitor or doctor etc.???

I'm also just wondering how much people paid per document as I was quoted �75 by the first notary I contacted, which seems awful steep. Especially since the one in Milton Keynes (as advised here) only costs �5.

I don't know about doctor, but if they're a solicitor they're a solicitor. They can't notarise something if they're not allowed to.
