|
|
My current system is a 4 yr old AMD Athlon 64 3000 running on XP Prof. But it gets too slow for new games and HD 1080P movies. So I'm going to have a new computer built and was thinking about:
Processor Intel Core i7 920 (Quad core)
Mainboard MSI X58 Pro-E
Memory 1600MHz (3 x 2GB)
HD Samsung Spinpoint F1 (1TB 7200 rpm)
Graphics GTX260 or Radeon HD 4870
Power Zalman (700W) (Might want to put another Graphics Card in later)
DVD Burner Samsung SH-S223F
Soundcard ?
OS Win XP Professional or ???
(Am I forgetting anything?)
Price: Approx. W 2 mil. (checked with local ajossi)
Q: Does this look like a decent setup? If not; suggestions?
Q: Do I need a soundcard?
Q: My old PC runs XP Prof. (retail) and I like it so I want to put it on my new computer. But with a quadcore I don't know if that makes sense. Maybe I need to go with Vista?
Any advice appreciated. |

2 mill?
I price that system at around 1.4.....not including OS.
CPU - 367,000
MOBO -260,000
GPU - 244,000
RAM - 167,000
HDD - 100,000
PSU - 110,000 (you only need 600w, or less, unless you plan to get two GPU's)
DVD - 30,000
Case - ? decent quality, brand name, steel, 80,000.
The common user doesn't need a soundcard. Motherboards have pretty good 5.1 audio these days. It's something you could easily add later if you feel the need.
Overall, that would be a great system. I'd be proud to own that PC.
Actually, you want 6GB of RAM, so you have to go with x64 windows. Your x32 copy of XP won't be able to use more than 3.2GB of RAM............x64 XP is a bit flakey......I'd strongly recommend x64 Vista or Windows 7.
Monitor?............a good system like that will be wasted on anything less than 24'' widescreen.......I'm using an LG 27'' and it's fantastic for gaming and movies. 500,000. Great spec. |

I'll use this price list to shop around a bit more.

OK I get that. I might use XP for now and get Win 7 when it's released.

I've got a monitor, Samsung 260, so I'll wait before going for a new one.
Thanks for the advice.
