Where do you stretch at the gym? My gym doesn't seem to have an area dedicated to stretching. Come to think of it, I never see anyone stretching. There are two well worn yoga mats in the free weights area. I generally pull one of those and find an empty spot in the free weights area to stretch and do ab work (again, I've never seen anyone do this). Most people seem to do ab work on the machines or benches... Personally I like the ground (I'm kind old school like that).

Lately the person trainer has been suggesting I use the GX room (exercise class room) to do stretching. He'll come over and tell me what time it's available so I can use it.... I was wondering if I'm violating some sort of gym etiquette by stretching on the ground (with a yoga matt) or if he's just trying to be nice.

gym etiquette ? emmmm if you want to blend in, try these..

1:stretch where you want!

2: don't put weights back

3: sit on machines when not using them and just stare at others who want to use them

4: don't wipe down the machines with your sweat!

5: walk on tread mills and talk loudly on your cell phone.!

6: take advice from the gym instructors who don't even know what they are talking about!

7: walk around the locker room naked and do stretches in front of the mirror!

8: blow dry your public hair and unit!

9: leave the towels on the floor..

10: ohhh don't wear shoes in the locker room..

Wink

umm... i mean more along the lines if it was ok to strech on the ground. i think the ajummas at my gym may have a heart attack if i stripped down to the buff and started strecthing in the change room.

Can you stretch at home? that's what I would used to do. The gym I used to go to has a stretching room but the ajummas use it to sit around and chat.

My gym has a section where gymnastic type mats are laid out. I stretch there every time, and so do a number of Koreans. In fact, there are always ppl on those mats; hard to find a spot sometimes.

Stretching on the floor is total cool.
