| If it's your first time do you have to have an interview? The nearest Korean Embassy for me is at least 7 hours a way and I was wondering if it was mandatory for the interview. |

| Although the embassy or consulate has the right to request an in-person interview, they usually don't if you have a notice of appointment for a public school position. I was with EPIK last year and I'm going to SMOE this year, and I was allowed to apply by mail. This is usually the case for most people, but you should call or e-mail the consulate before you send your documents to make sure. However, if you are applying for an E-2 visa to work for a hagwon, I believe you will have to go to the consulate for an interview. |

| It's different for every consulate/embassy. I am a PS teacher and last fall I wasn't required to go in for an interview (at the consulate in Boston), but I have some friends that were required to. Just call your closest consulate/embassy and ask. Also, when I called I found out I didn't have to submit a bunch of paperwork that my recruiter told me would be required. Take the few minutes and call! |

I went for an interview, but I had the option of mailing them a CD. When I got my new visa in Hong Kong, I didn't have an interview, as it was clear that I could speak English.
This might help you:

To lessen the burden of a face to face interview for those who live away from Gauteng a self introductory CD when applying for an E-2 visa will be accepted. After reviewing the visa applicants CD and application form, a consul may contact the applicant for further questions if necessary.
Please note:
The Korean Embassy in Pretoria will NOT return the CD to the visa applicant. The CD must be 10/15 Minutes long.

HOW TO BURN A VIDEO FILE TO A CD:
1. First, you need to tell windows what video file you want copied to the CD.
2. Open My Computer, and then drag your CD-RW drive.
3. Now drag and drop (Or copy/paste) the video file you created to the open window.
(Note: when you drag, or copy these files it only puts them on a list it does not automatically start making the CD)
4. At this point you should have your video file to CD burner.
5. Place a blank (Writable) CD into your drive. Open My computer and then double
Click the CD-RW drive. You should see the video file you selected to burn.
6. Click the Write these files to CD and it will start windows CD burning wizard. From there follow the Prompts.
(Note: If you accidentally stick a file on the list that you dont want on the CD, you can remove it by right-clicking the file and selecting delete.)
7. During the actual CD process, its best not to mess with your computer. |

| Well, I am South African, so just ask your consulate before going to the trouble. You're welcome. |

Each consulate is different. Mine was in Houston which is about a 10 hour drive from my hometown.
When I called asking if we could do a phone interview or some sort of webcam interview I was told it was impossible and that in fact I would have to appear in person.
The other problem is they gave me like 3 days notice for the interview so to fly was gonna be like $400.
I found the whole process very annoying. I had to rent a car and drive 10 hours to Houston. When I got there me and about 8 other people were there for interview (one guy had to drive 12 hours). My interview was maybe 20 minutes in which I was asked 1. If I was a christian 2. Why Texas was a Republican state 3. Was I sure I could live in a rural town.
They never actually asked anything about teaching experience or anything like that. Of course once the interview was over I was anxious to leave to avoid rush hour traffic and so I asked if I could go I was told to wait. So I had to wait for everyone to finish their interview. 2 hours later a lady came out to announce our visas would be mailed and we could all go. Which of course made it so I had to leave in rush hour traffic thus adding another 2 hours to my trip. |
