How much does your University GPA make in getting a job in Korea? Someone told me for example, that Seoul schools require a 3.0 GPA.

I specifically asked one of my recruiters and the recruiter said that it really had no relevance. However, it has more bearing than what you studied/majored in, given that it is not English or Education.

Did you graduate? Congratulations, your GPA is high enough.

Remember that not all of the teachers here are from the States, and thus not all of them use silly little things like GPAs. Tsk tsk. Don't worry about the number, for crying out loud. The question should be if you got an A in English.

Degrees aren't always a good measure either. I'm bilingual and I took half of my subjects in another language. My degree is printed in English, so who would ever know if I took all my lectures in a different language? (Ja, ek het 'n graad, maar ek in Afrikaans gestudeer! :b)

What does it help if you have a GPA of 4 but your school was Spanish?

All you need is a degree (real/fake) and a pulse for the "job". Welcome to ESL in Korea!

What's the difference between a doctor with a 4.0 GPA and one who graduated with a 1.0 GPA?

Nothing, they both are doctors.

Now change that to ELT and tada.
What you major in is the only difference in pay.

I was told by my recruiter that you must have over a 3.0 GPA to work for SMOE.
She told me, since I had a 2.8 GPA, that they would not hire me, and that I should work for GEPIK and more than likely be working in a rural area. IM not sure if she was telling me the truth or not. Sounds like BS to me.....wondering is the recruiter is getting a better kick backs from GEPIK.

Certainly is!

GEPIK doesn't require a GPA score so I don't know why you would be sent to the wop wops with your crappy GPA. Evil or Very Mad

Change your recruiter. They are lying.

I never heard of GPA meaning anything...maybe for university gigs. Then again, if you have a master's degree, shouldn't you have a decent GPA?

I have had 2 jobs that cared about GPA, but I have worked for over 15 schools in my career thus far, so I wouldn't worry about it. The only jobs that cared about GPA was that mine was good and that impressed them but they also had teachers that had much lower and they got paid the same. However, management did come to me for editing and other extra projects.

Chambertin, your analogy is quite stupid. In graduate and post graduate school anything less than a 3.0 is a failing grade. I got one B in Grad school and was chastized for months.

There is no such thing as a Doctor with a 1.0. Couldn't happen.

In the EFL trade all inexperienced teachers are pretty much lumped together, no matter what they studied (unless it is one of the holy 3) or how well they did.

OP
Just keep applying to find a school that you like and don't worry you will get something eventually.
