At work, I've been re-reading a lot of children's books that I read when I was a child. Some of the books are still great, and others aren't. I'm just wondering which authors everyone else liked when they were a kid. I limited it to sci-fi/fantasy because, otherwise, there wouldn't be nearly enough room. As a kid, I probably would've chosen John Bellairs, but now, probably Roald Dahl.
Sorry if your favorite author isn't in the poll. I based this list half on what I read as a kid and half on what I believe to be the most popular authors today. |

| Whoops. Looks like I've already forgotten two big ones: C.S. Lewis and Phillip Pullman. |

| I chose JK Rowling and my second pick would be CS Lewis. Dahl is pretty awesome too, though. I remember in elementary school we had a lot of fun making treats described in his books. |

| I couldn't get enough of John Christopher as a kid -- also Heinlein, Asimov, and Stephen King. |

lol @ Rowling beating Dahl or L'Engle.
You guys have to be kidding me.
Anyway, besides those two, I preferred Virginia Hamilton back in my day. |

I always loved this book as a child:

post apocalyptic children's book! I've not read any of the authors other books but it's kinda fitting for Korea. |

| Pullman and Dahl, though I haven't read most of the others, or if I have, I don't remember. My opinion is pretty worthless, in other words. |

| Wheres J.R.R. Tolkien? I read through his books like it was crack before I even got out of 7th grade. I'd have to sit there, with a huge dictionary, searching for a new word every two sentences. Then I read the Silmarillion, that was a challenge! |

Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Treehouse Series is just perfect for my intermediate (the higher level classes) grade 3-5 students at the hagwon.
Dr. Seuss for everyone except the grade 6ers, whom I have more on true stories than fantasy stories at their age. |

[rant]If you're an adult and you read Harry Potter or go and watch the films, then sorry, but you are a complete nobber. I am forced to go and sit through 2 hours of that benign kiddie crap tomorrow because of my university and I hate everyone and anyone who is an adult and likes to watch the films or read the books. Grow up. [/rant]
When I was a child My favourite author was Roald Dahl. I still think he is by far, the best children's author.
J.K. Rowling is a shadow beneath Dahl. Don't need to read her books to know that one for sure. |
