Hi Everyone!
Just needed some advice really. I'm leaving to go traveling to Mexico in November and i need a new bank account. I have heard that Korean bank cards don't work abroad (mine didn't work in Japan) and i need to be able to access in Mexico and central America. I'm a actually a Brit, but have since closed my British bank account for various reasons (they lost money i sent home!) and as such do not have a bank account to use. does anyone have any ideas on this?Does anyone know if i can join an American bank in Korea, even though I'm British?
well hopefully someone can help!
Cheers

You can obtain an international ATM card. I have one from KEB and I have used it outside of Korea (Japan and the United States). I've also heard others having varying success getting an international ATM card from SC, Woori, and Nongyhup. Keep in mind that it will only work at ATMs; you cannot make purchases with it ouside of Korea. |

Sorry but my luck with Korean ATM cards has...sucked. I did have one issued to me by IBK, but after it was damaged in Thailand they would not issue one to me again claiming the government did not want any issued to foriegners (that was a lie that the banks were using). I have not been able to get one issuded to me since. So, what can you do? I am heading to New Zealand next year, and have found that I can regester at most of their banks, transfer money to those accounts, and once I am in New Zealand I can activate the account and take my money out. So get a back account set up such as with Bank of America, stop in San Fran or Phoeniix acctivate the account and head south. This might be a way for you to go. |

If a Korean bank, so far as I understand they will only issue you one card, if you lose or it is damged they will issue you another...if you are in Korea. )))
If American, they can issure an extra, if not they will have one sent to you by courier, once you have given them proof it is you. Just make sure that you know the method they will use before you head into Mexico. |
