what would be the specs for a mid range computer. There won't be any advanced game play. It is for my brother-in-law's family. They don't need anything to fancy just something that will see them through the next 5 or so years. |

5 years is a long time. I think you'll need to go top-end to last that long... or make way for an upgrade path.
I'd spend a little more and at least get a low-end quad-core CPU from Intel. |

They are not the richest of people and not heavy gamers. The kids play some flash based games on the internet and maybe kartrider. I figure something half decent should suffice. I"m not familiar with the numbers anymore. I used to know what were the top speeds and mid range speeds but i'm out of touch with that now. What would be a low to mid range processor speed? |

I have a Core2Duo E6550 (2.33GHz) I could sell you for 50,000. Used it for a year; a solid performer and more than enough for the tasks you listed. Its a low-end Core2Duo, but still listing at 110,000.
You will then need a mainboard (100,000+/-), RAM (20,000 per GB, 2GB would be plenty), Hard drive (320GB for 60,000) and a video card (ATI 4670 - 100,000), Power (40,000), case (30,000), mouse/keyboard (as cheap as you like really), ODD (30,000) and of course a monitor; depending on brand name, size, etc, the price will vary.
PM if you are interested in the CPU. Maybe I could help with the buy/build if you like. |

Well, it may be worth a day trip. From what I understand, things are more expensive outside Seoul, and if you are in the market for somewhat older hardware, it may be scarce.
Anyhow, I can send the CPU to Ulsan and if you do decide to come in to Seoul, let me know if you want some company. I either sell the CPU or give it to Superhero. |

They were planning on getting the computer this weekend so I don't have time to build a computer much less wait around for a delivery. Also I don't have much of an idea on how to put one together. Thanks for the offer at any rate. Are there any brands to avoid? or tips that anyone has? Before going to buy I want to know which processors are considered midrange. |

Choose your parts and have them assemble it and install the OS.
CPU: E7500 - 147,000
Mainboard: ASUS P5QL-SE iBORA - 119,000
Hard drive: Samsung 320GB Spinpoint F1 - 58,000 (I don't like Samsung drives, but it's good for A/S.)
VGA: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4830 HDMI 512MB - 118,000
RAM: 2x1GB Samsung - 30,000
Case: (Your choice) - 30,000
Mouse: (Standard 3 button) - 8,000
Keyboard: (Generic) - 8,000
Power: (Generic) 500w. - 30,000
ODD: DVD-RW - 35,000
Total: 583,000 (Without a monitor)
This is a general-purpose system. The price can go up or down easily.
I don't recommend buying a prefab system, as they will use poor quality or used "refurbished" parts. |
