Hello,
Does anyone know if Korean Immigration will take the Record Review CRC (for personal review) as opposed to the Visa/Immigration CRC?
I submitted my livescan fingerprints almost one month ago and still have not received my state of CA criminal record check. I suspect the reason for the delay could be that I checked "Record Review" instead of "Visa/Immigration." The clerk at the Police Department instructed me to select "Record Review" because I told her I did not need the record check for my visa, which is true, as I will be going to Korea on an F-4 visa. However, I now realize that I will probably need the CRC for immigration purposes, so the both the clerk and I were mistaken. The CRC for Record Review is made available for an applicant to verify what is on his/her record, NOT to obtain employment, but for my reason for request, I wrote something along the lines of "record needed for employment oversees." I can see that this contradiction may be the cause for the delay.
My documents are due in 7 days. If I receive the Review Record CRC, should I go ahead and send that in, or should I just scrap the entire mess and go in for another set of livescan fingerprinting? Any opinions would be helpful.
Thank you. |

Sounds like something might be wrong. I checked for "Personal Review" and did my live scan on Thursday of last week and just got my letter in the mail today. MUCH faster than I was expecting from a gov't. agency. |

I may be wrong, but I really don't think it makes a difference if you selected "Personal Review" over "VISA/IMMIGRATION." I selected the latter, but my letter doesn't indicate whatsoever that my selection influenced the type of check. If anything, the letter lists my reason for checking as "Visa/Immigration."
I think what you should be most concerned about is not having received your CRC so far. I did my scan on Thursday late afternoon, and received it in the mail today. When you got your fingerprints scanned, you should have received a receipt that includes an application/tracking number of sorts. Contact the DOJ and try to locate the document with that number. You can do as you stated and start the process all over again, but that's another roughly $50 (at least in California). If the DOJ can't find your CRC and you do have a number, I would think that it wouldn't take too long for them to send another. |

Thanks, everyone, for your replies.
Unfortunately, I have called the automated phone number (916-277-4557, memorized) and have left several messages with the Record Review Unit. I also have my ATI tracking number. The problem is that the only option a caller has is to leave a message. No one ever picks up. Also, in order to submit a new request, I would have to submit a new set of fingerprints - another $50.
Qwerty123, were you able to get your personal review record check apostilled? CRCs for "personal review" are for the individual applicant's review only, and the DOJ website states that one could be charged with a misdemeanor offense for releasing his/her personal review CRC. Honestly, I'm not so concerned about this - if I can get it apostilled (once I receive the CRC, that is), I'll send it in. |
