Anything about wine can go in here, including Korean raspberry wine.
I wouldn't call myself a wine connoisseur, but I like to drink it sometimes. I prefer dry reds (Cabernet, Chianti). I enjoyed and appreciated all the discussion and information about beer in Korea (in the beer thread), and I would like to hear about people's opinions/advice on drinking wine in Korea.
Any advice on where to drink good wine or find good values? |

I hope this thread takes off. Me too, I enjoy wine from time to time but could use some advice regarding good choices & good deals. |

I've been digging "Malbec" wine for quite some time now. It's an Argentinean grape. It's relatively cheap depending on the brand and also considering some of the absurd wine prices I see in Korea.
Brands:
Argento
- You can buy this at Costo for around 10,000 won and a little bit higher at other store. It certainly doesn't taste like a cheap bottle.
Trapichie
- Around 20,000. Open it up and let it sit for 20 minutes, then drink. The guy at the shop told me to do this, I usually can't wait that long.
Check it out. |

I absolutely must recommend a fantastic wine sold at HomePlus.
It is part of the Tesco Finest range, a wonderful 14% volume Garnacha. It's a very reasonable 10,000 the last time I checked, although it has been steadily creeping up in price. |

Thanks for the tips. I live right by a HomePlus, so I'll check out the Garnacha.
Anyone have any good recommendations on places to drink wine?
I like The Wine Factory in Itaewon, though it's tiny, and often full. Most other places I know are in Itaewon in well. Any good wines bars outside of the 'twon? |

This doesn't seem to have been updated a lot recently but it was a good source of where to buy good wines in Korea:

Not sure if I should divulge this to the masses, but every Saturday night from 6 to 9 at the Intercontinental Hotel at Coex there is an all you can drink wine and side food deal. It's around 25,000 won from 6 to 9. They have a few different bottles of red and white as well as champagne. The wine is not the greatest, but it will get the job done. The buffet has various cheeses, olives, bread, fruit, and a bunch of finger food. I haven't been there in a few months, but every time I went it was a blast with friends. Make sure you dress like a half way decent human being, it's a pretty nice place. I imagine this deal is still happening there. |

I like the sound of that. What do you mean by "all you can drink wine" though? Is it sit down or do you just go up to the bar or get a re-fill from wandering waiters?
25K a pop for bottomless vino and viddals souns outstanding. |

I'll second that. I'd be leaving that place with a serious case of black lips. |

I don't know, but it's sickly sweet, so is probably a good drink for teenagers. |

When I mean all you can drink wine, it's literally all you can drink. You serve yourself!!! They set out a table with various bottles and you fill up your glass with as little or as much you like. Plus, the servers are always giving you clean glass, taking away old ones, and putting fresh bottles on the table.
The few times I went with friends, we got pretty sloppy. However, we kept it cool and collected while our heads were swimming. It might be a little daunting the first time you go considering the elegance of the place and atmosphere. The employees are nice and will help you get started.
Honestly, bring a date there (it's that kind of place) or just go to pre-party in pseudo sophistication with a few friends. Hit the back room by the bar if you wanna smoke. |
