Hi,
I'm going to buy a single ticket to Korea because I can't afford a return. I've heard stories that you have to make sure your employer realises that they only paid for a single at the time of your arrival, rather than a return - so should I keep the single ticket until the end of the year as proof just in case an issue arises?
The main reason for this post is this: I was wondering how long it took your hagwon to get your airfare (single) reimbursed once you arrived in Korea. Do you just show them the ticket and then hope to get paid in your first pay check??
Let me know!
Thanks. |

I can't say I've heard of too many hagwons that require the FT to pay for their airfare. Are you sure this is a reputable place to work? |

These days public schools and high quality hogwans do NOT prepay for teachers' plane tickets. There have been too many instances of dishonest teachers refunding tickets, missing flights and losing airfare, or using the free ride to Korea or stopping off in Japan on their way to Korea.
You should receive your refund during your first week if you're working for a reputable school. |

I think it is still the standard deal for a lot of reputable hagwons to pay for airfare. I came here in the beginning of May and my school picked up the tab. I don't know...maybe schools have changed but I think it's not unusual to still have your airfare paid up front by a private school. |

I've always heard that the best way to do it is to demand airfare up front. That way you're assured that you will get a ticket there. |
