Hello Everyone

I stumbled upon "Globish" a few weeks ago. I know there is a book written for Koreans, but I was wondering if anyone has tried Globish in the classroom.

If you have tried it, were you successful using it or was it a waste of time? I'm curious about real world experience.

Thanks in advance.

I did an article on Globish---not in Globish---for one of my weekly teachers' workshops, but never tried teaching it. From what I've read it just sounds like an effort from a bitter French guy more keen on bringing down English than actually helping people communicate.

You can read a couple of chapters of the real thing -- IN Globish -- from the new book Globish The World Over now at www.globish.com or read reviews at http://izibook.eyrolles.com/9782212865424/Globish+The+World+Over .

Interesting theory...I doubt most of my students know 1500 English words right now. That's a nice number though for communicating in any language, I'd think. As long as you learn enough verbs and conjugation and supplement that with vocab the rest will come to you over time if you immerse yourself in a foreign environment. I really doubt it would be very effective if you only stayed in your home country though.

Good perhaps for travelers (in a limited way; speaking will be simplified, but one still must deal with the other 6000 [numbers according to the site] words used regularly by native speakers), but otherwise pretty much just a method to foundational English, of which there are already no shortages.

It seems to operate with a myopic view of what 'communication' is comprised of, and therefore offers a false hope; until the rest of the English-speaking world is similarly hemmed in to the Globish protocol, it has little value.

However, it has the buzzword appeal that Koreans like. I can see this becoming the next "crazy English" fad.

Yes. For a start, there is an online course for computers and mobiles at http://www.globish.com/?page=learn_globish
