Totally unacceptable. The article mentions the officer being disciplined, but this sort of sadism should result in dismissal at the very least, and quite possibly criminal prosecution after that. At times the line between reasonable force and police brutality can be blurred, but this is so far over that line that there's no question of which it is.

i keep saying this but...requirements to become a police officer have to tighten up. I'm not sure but from what I hear anyone with a high school diploma and a pulse can go to police academy and become a cop today.

there is no academic requirement it seems. You could of been a student with D's and C's on your college transcript and still become a cop, this is profoundly ridiculous for cops that hold so much power and authority over everyone else. It's no wonder we hear about these cases everyday.

Yeah, the suspect had 2 taser marks on his buttocks but that's it. The police may have used unprofessional language and that's so wrong blah blah blah...

I love how police have to be all proper like after a big chase or after fighting with suspects. I believe a certain amount of force should be justified. I have worked with incarcerated felons (state and federal) and sometimes the only thing they understand is when it's said in a particular fashion.

As for "anyone can become a police officer..." yeah, right. Maybe in a few police agencies all you need is a HS diploma but most require at least 2 years of college. Additionally, you will not be competitive for hire without a BA in criminal justice. That's a fact! The minimum may be a HS diploma but when you are competing against a candidate pool of BA holders and former military, good luck with that diploma!

As someone who has worked in law enforcement, I guess I have more compassion for those who "serve and protect." Yeah, the officers language was innapropriate but it definitely wasn't torture. Get a grip people.

Did the cop tase the perp after he was already subdued, handcuffed, and face down on the ground? If so then I would call that torture.
Cops are getting out of control with their tasers. See the grandma who was tased?

I don't think education is a filter for cruelty. There are plenty of educated, cruel people out there. How about some sort of empathy test, or a test for the dilation of the capillaries, the so-called blush response, when asked some questions...
