In my opinion stay away from vista ultimate. Although billed as a great operating system its possibly one of the biggest wastes of cash out there.

First up it takes up a massive amount of space on your hard disk, so much so that you can hardly even install other applications to add to it. This is only the 32 bit as well.

secondly it is incompatible with Canon cameras. It doesn't have the correct driver. So no photo editing.

thridly it is incompatible with I-tunes. So no music.

Fourthly it is incompatible with youtube, so no videos either.

Just what you always wanted.....

I use Ultimate and I love it. It's a wonderful OS and I've had no problems with it. I would have recommended buying it, but since Windows 7 is so near, I won't anymore.

How big is your HDD? My OS is on a 30GB partition of a 500GB drive. I also have a 50GB partition for programs, and two others for data and backup. The only way you wouldn't have enough space is if you have a super-small hard drive. And if that is the case, why not upgrade to a 500GB or bigger for under $100? If you didn't do this, that's your own fault, not the OS's.

Don't know about this as I use Nikon, although I seriously doubt there are NO drivers for any Canon cameras.

This doesn't mean no music, it just means no i-tunes (if this is even true b/c I'm pretty sure I know someone who has Ultimate and i-tunes running but I'll have to check to confirm that). I have a lot of music and I listen to it regularly.

Flat out wrong. I visit youtube regularly on my machine. In fact, just watched a video this morning. If you're not getting youtube to work, again, it's your own fault for whatever you've done to it.

This part is true, Ultimate is exactly what I wanted. It's a good, solid, stable OS that doesn't interfere with my other computing needs.

Yeah, Windows is known for having bad out of the box performance, especially Windows. It can do some things fine, but the over all user experience is usually ruff and leaving the average user frustrated.

Try Mac OS X. Smile Built in drivers for almost all of your needs with a basic creative suite to edit movies, music, and photos.

Mac OSX is good, but if you want to play games then forget it. Windows Vista isn't all that good, so try Windows 7. IMO it is better than both OSX and Vista even though it's only in beta stage now.

Back to the drawing board, dude. All that stuff is compatible with Vista.

If you really think Vista is incompatible with Youtube........weird, cuz I've been watching Youtube all afternoon on Vista Ultimate.

Maybe you just need to install the flash player/shockwave plug-in like everybody else does.

Not knowing these basics leads me to suggest that maybe you should switch to Mac. I hear there's no thinking needed with Mac.

Lol, nice. It's not that there is no thinking Mac, it's that there is little thinking done with Windows development Post-Bill Gates.

Windows 7 will be good, when compared to Vista and XP. But what still ruins Windows 7 for me is the teared pricing that is ridiculous. MS leaves out some key features form both their home and business editions that are almost laughable.

Cannon works out of the box no need for drivers

You tube works fine must be your browser

Itunes don't know don't care

Massive space, Get a massive harddrive. If your trying to run it on a ssd netbook no wonder.

Turn off the windows restore (restore OS not system restore). You have a backup of your entire system there

Ok I'm not as Computer savvy as most but seriously this has done my head in.

Youtube and other vids eg on CNN all stop playing after about 5 seconds. I have the latest flash player, I've tried changing security settings on both norton and windows defender and browser, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling firewall. Nothing....

YouTube incompatible? I can't wait until you know how naive that statement is.

I have 2 Canon cameras...S70 (old) and the latest IXUS...no problems.

Itunes is teh ghey. I hope it doesn't work. For anyone. Ever.

32-bit is for the aged.

Fills up your hard drive? Careful here...it tells a lot about the age of your system, which is probably, now that it is out, the heart of the issue.

My current install, with many, many programs (large ones as well; full Office suite, Adobe this and that, HWP, etc) tops out at 30GB. Pithy. GTA4 (a game) takes 14GB alone.

Whew.

Now...

Plug in your camera and do a Windows Update.

I have Vista Ultimate andL

Both Canon Ixus 850IS AND Canon 85 work just by plugging it into the USB port. Nothing to install.

Itunes works flawlessly. I'm using it right now.

Youtube works like a champ when the server isn't having maintenance.

Vista takes up about 5 gigs on my 120GB system drive. So, no its not taking up the whole hard drive.

Something is wrong with your install dude. Are you sure you aren't running in safe/recovery mode?

We've had great luck with Vista 64 on my wife's computer.

The 32-bit version on my father's notebook didn't seem quite as good to me.

I flat out skipped Vista after it crashed a brand new PC. I rolled back to xP SP3 was happy as ever with that, and beta tested/RC for Windows 7 works better than Vista ever did. Is it just me or is the rollout for Windows 7 so quick because Vista is a POS? Either way, Windows 7 seems to be the only real decent upgrade to XP.

Isn't the disappointment with Vista the reason for MS coming out with 7?
I just sold a notebook that I had for almost two years w/ Vista Ultimate w/o any problems. I'm running Win 7 RC on a netbook & it runs fine (knock on wood). If I had the money, I'd like to get an Apple notebook but thats not happening soon.
