but the obsession gets old and guys who act like creeps just trying to rack up as many Korean girls as possible, well you look like pervs.

I agree, I've hung around some of the guys who very obviously are having some kind of sexual revolution here that never happened to them back home, but they talk about it way too much in an over inflated manner which leaves me feeling very embarrased to be around them (I'm a 'western' guy myself)

 foreign guys who I considered to be less attractive than me (that I wouldn't be interested in dating), who managed to get Korean women who are way better-looking. You never see the reverse happen (very hot Korean guy with ugly foreign woman ... never). So it is a bit of an unfair situation and made me a bit bitter, as well as some of the other foreign women I hung around with.

I completely disagree. Whilst I don't like to go round defining everyone by their looks I would certainly say that I've seen plenty Korean guys who had good job, wore nice clothes and that I imagine most women would say were good looking with westrern girls who were ' a bit' to 'rather'overweight and most likely not considered very attractive by conventional modern standards.... I've even known some girls like this that were dating 'out of their league' in superficial terms.

Oh, and for the guys who said that western women are not as attractive as Korean women, don't dress as well, etc.... yeah that may be true in most cases but it is just as true that Korean men are better-looking/better-dressed than you.

I guess it goes both ways huh?! So an interesting question would be - how come you girls don't go round sniping about K girls and how fugly western guys in Korea are like a lot of the guys on this board do about you lot...? |

Because in Canada, there are no jobs, and all you can do is eat, smoke weed, and watch TV. |

We gotta ditch this victim mentality, man. You said you dated four guys while you were here -- four in a year ain't bad, depending on the length of time with each. Were they hideous/cretinous or something?

I really am sick and tired of seeing all these articles and "studies" about how Western women "suffer" in Asia, due to the supposed man drought. I don't know who these women are, or what they're doing wrong, but I suspect it's largely a self-perpetuated myth, helped along mightily by insecure, jealous, bitter Western men.

Like I said, even in my short time here, I've noticed a big part of that Asian male/Western female wall starting to crumble and fall. It seems like both sides had been told for so long that they're not compatible, they just accepted it without reason. Now, you see both sides start to open their eyes and look around and wonder why the **** we're not supposed mesh, when actually, there's quite a bit of attraction on both sides.

Also, there are many foreign men here who are still open to, or even prefer, a relationship with a Western woman.

Anyway, I think the destruction of the stereotype can only be a good thing for ALL foreigners in Korea. It's not viewed as predatory when a foreign woman dates a Korean man, as it often (OFTEN) is when a foreign man dates a Korean woman, so in a way, it's a sort of backdoor into changing the perception of "mixed blood" relationships. Hopefully, when more Korean men have more intimate ties with foreigners, a lot of the hate for Western men who date/love/marry Korean women will stop, due to a growth in understanding and general enlightenment. Right? Right.

There's no reason to hate on each other about the whole thing. We're all essentially in the same boat, coming at it from different angles. Western men who date Korean women are creepy rapists. Guess what? Western women who date Korean men are hot and easy. We're all dealing with the same horse manure. No reason to turn on each other in the process.... |

And I'll be the first to admit I have definitely made it 'out of my league' quite a bit since being in Korea. You're right on this one. But. It's not creepy. It's just different aesthetics, combined with a healthy fascination with the new and different. On all sides. |

I too don't see the big deal with any of it - be it -

HK + HW

HK  + NHW

NHK + HW

NHK + NHW

h = hot

K = Korean

W = Westerner

NH = not hot

Why people get so riled up over it I don't know. Usually I hear that it's some western guy who thinks he heard or did hear a western women say he was batting out of his league and he thus disparages on her becuase she's not exactly Scarlett Johansen herself and he senses some bitterness perhaps. I guess I'd be p'd off if I were in that guys shoes, I'd be like 'so wish me luck, why diss on me..?'

But anyway.... |

There's a little known book that was published two decades ago called "Controlling Interests: Who Owns Canada? " by Diane Francis.

The book detailed how Canada is owned by about 30 families and a handful of corporations. It created a huge sensation when it was first published but there seems to be a movement to suppress it. Maybe by the author herself who seems to have strangely backed off from her claims.

In her second book she says that Canada is now more economically democratic and fair, which I don't find very credible. I mean asset wealth does not change hands that fast. And I havent heard of a Canadian revolution having taken place. Maybe she sold out.

Canada is basically a plutocracy comprised mainly of a very cliquish Scottish-Presbyterian racial elite. If you're well connected then you've got no problems but the vast majority of Canadians are absolutely not and quite a few of those end up teaching English in Asia for their bread and butter. It isnt the only answer to your question Barneygumbell but Id say its one factor. Certainly food for thought.

The situation has improved since that book was written but on the other hand the elites probably just got better at hiding their wealth and power. |

Precisely. It's ridiculous to try to judge by looks alone, anyway. You see a hottie with a not-so-hottie, why's it about the hottie being pathetic? Maybe the not-so-hottie's just got super game. Good on 'em.

Me, personally, I'm not turning anything down for being "too good". Call me crazy. |

Canadian government lets Korean travel Canada without visa a long before American government did and in return Korea lets Canadian get 6 months tourist visa and that brought bunch of gypsy/unqualified/illegal Canadian to Korea. |
