The US GDP in 2008 was over $14 trillion. A couple trillion printed or borrowed dollars isn't the greatest idea, sure, but it's not the end of the world - it's the American way! Can you see someone making $60k a year taking out a lease on a $10k car? No problem. Yes, it will cost more than $10k in the long run, but you still end up with a car.

Let me give you my take on the truth. I think we are on the cusp of a global economic meltdown. The crisis hasn't even begun yet. It will begin next Christmas. Unemployment in America will be about 12 to 13 percent. Retail sales will be squat. More stores will close their doors.

It will affect Asia pretty hard. They manufacture crap for Americans to buy. Americans won't be buying. They won't be buying for a long long time. I'm middle aged with a wife and children. I'm just scared as all get out.

I've never seen anything like this in my lifetime. I hope I'm wrong. But I don't think I am.

Honestly right now the situation in America is terrible, I didn't usually care what's going on in the world economy, but this time it really scares me.
The everyday subjects of conversation for everybody in America is about economy. Unemployment rates of most States are over 10 %.
New plant of Kia Motor in West Point, Georgia took applications several months ago and 45,000 applications for less than 2000 jobs.

Korea, I think doing much better than America and Korean are optimistic about their future, I didn't read any depressing news on Korean newspapers, not yet.

You didn't see heads getting busted in yesterday by the police at Ssangyong Motors? Americans are the ones who buy what Koreans manufacture. Hold on to your socks, sister. It's going to get real bad. Real bad globally.

There will be blood.

No, but they sell a lot of hyundai's and kia's. No workee mean no buyee.

A steel plant recently closed in China. The workers killed the boss. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Google Gerald Celente. He's my favorite econonimist. Look for his last podcast. He'll tell you the details.

Why don't you get it? No work equals no money. No money equals no food. No food equals starvation.

Why is that so hard to unerstand?

Cover your floor with dirt and grow some rice. Keep a couple of pigs in your bathroom. You'll be fine.

after watching far too many celente and schiff youtube videos I find myself compelled to buy gold coins. I will be inheriting a small fortune soon and I'm seriously playing with the thought of converting half of it for a 1 kilogram gold bullion bar.

But correct me if im wrong...gold wont make me a profit for investing in it. It only protects me against inflation. In other words it's like playing defense.

I guess I'll really start storing tin cans hiding in my Korean studio apartment along with my gold coins expecting WW3.

Don't understand the quote function so,

Re: meltdown in China, www.economist.com for "we have changed our forecast about China." That Digest? I'd do more homework. Always pays to be cautious. Plenty of sharks in the h20.

My personal opinion is that it could collapse all over the place. Teachers abroad w/ no other skills/few other skills like me should save like mad.

But things don't seem to happen so dramatically nowdays. In the 30's, sure, collapse; but now, very little seems to change, watching the folks in the malls, seeing the kids at unis. At least in the education market. The poor PRC provinces might really be feeling the heat (Henan etc). And I'm curious about the Guagnzhou foreclosures. Being behind the firewall, that's hard info to come by.

ASmith, there's China, there's Indonesia, Thailand, lots of places. Don't give up. You're ugly? I'm 60, w/ many wrinkles & good triceps.

What gets me in the prc is the general totalitarian trip. Though it sounds like your sts are also mindless. Circuits missing like these kids though, I wonder?

Did you see the new unemployment figures today?

Obama is a joke. He's employed by the star-chamber.

Man, the world is changing. Teachers are flooding the market because the American and British economies imploded. Soon it will be tough to get a job in Korea. Never thought I'd see that day. Just glad I have an f-visa. If you see me on the side of the road, please buy one of my pencils.

I'll be honored to buy your gum. These are scary times. But it's not the black plague. For ten to fifteen years, we're gonna be in the toilet. We just have to accept it and hunker down.

But we've also got to start voting for people who represent the people. I got taken in by Obama. I got taken in by Bush.

I won't be fooled again.
