A Roaring Good Time: The First Annual Cougars Convention
http://www.thefrisky.com/post/246-First-Annual-National-Single-Cougars-Convention/

Hahaha. It's only fair. Older men and younger women being a couple happen all the time. Look at John McCain and his wife.

I get the American TV show, "The Strange Lives of Women," with my cable here in Korea -- I'm confident the show is from the Lifetime network (that cable channel in the US that caters to women) -- and one episode was about younger men and older women.

Women like this are called "cougars."

So you had these guys in their 20s - 30s and these women in their 40s - 50s as a couple. Whoa! Shocked

At least two of them were students. One was I assume an undergrad while one was a grad student. Maybe the women were paying for their studies. Hahaha.

What was interesting though was how some of the female friends of the older women, who were in the same age range as the woman, were against the relationships.

That's totally different from men. If an older man's guy friend in the same age range as the older man was dating a way younger woman, the man would be total supportive of the relationship and congratulate his friend on getting such a younger woman and he would want to learn how he can get one himself.

Of people I actually know in the real world, the biggest gender gap is a case in which the woman is 7 years older than the guy.

The episode said that most cougar relationships don't last. Surprise, surprise.

Hahaha.

The convention is in Silcon Valley, which is near San Fran in California. No surprise that it's happening in San Fran as that place is totally liberal.

My father was 13 years older than my mother, and they remained together until she died. Yes, he outlived her.

My wife was eight years older than I. (OK, we divorced, but there were extenuating circumstances. And we had been in love.)

Love does not respect age. It has nothing to do with "liberal" (whatever that means). I find disagreeable this idea that people must fall in love within someone else's parameters.

hahaha...I call "cougar" a 15+ age difference. If a woman is 7 or even 10 years older than a guy, I hardly call that a cougar. I went to school with someone whose Mom is 7 years older than her stepdad. Big cahooting deal. I think there are more important things in the world to worry about. I know a Korean girl whose boyfriend is 15 years older than her...But does he get called derogatory names like "cougar"? Heck no.

'Cougars' make tracks to Del Mar. The Del Mar race track in CA just had a Miss Cougar 2009 contest as a promotion. My former professor is quoted in the article. His lectures were about as boring as his quote.
