Anyone have a link to the Korean article on this? Is Chia from WhatTheBook still around here -- I'd assume his area falls under this too. Apparently, there was a gov't announcement that a large portion of Itaewon is scheduled to be leveled in the next 1 to 2 years, and totally rebuilt? Was talking with several Korean friends about this in Goldfish bar, and a guy at the Foreign food market confirmed it. |

"the" Korean article? This scheme has been brewing for about 10 years now. Maybe longer. Still a year or two off? I'm surprised it's taken them this long to get off the drawing board and onto the bulldozers.
"Good-bye skeezy clubs & people, Hello billion-won-per-unit highrise apartments surrounded by green areas" seems to be the battle cry.
BTW, who calls it "Gay Hill"?

^I'm pretty sure the profession can still survive in Korea!
I am curious to how big a "large portion of Itaewon" is.
With any luck they mean the whole place.
It would be nice to see most all of it go and start over. |

I heard from a school not far from WhatTheBook, around the mosque, pretty much up to main street Itaewon, and that area. Not sure how far toward Geckos it will go, but yeah... that area. |

Really? The store seems to do so well. I am guessing they are managing it from afar while they educate their son overseas? He was about that age. |

Where will all the soldiers hang out now once the area is demolished?
Also, Itaewon has been known for providing affordable housing for many in the expat community.
It basically sounds like they are running the foreigners out of what is basically known as the foriegn district. |

Hopefully WhatTheBook survives! I'll need a good store to buy English books from when I get over to Korea. |

Agreed. The restaurants and some of the pubs? Some good to great places, but the rest is garbage. |

If the Mosque was destroyed, that would be tragic. |
