You make your own good time in Korea. There's plenty of freedom to do it, just pay your dues by learning the language and the culture enough to understand the basics going on around you. It's not hard, just be observant.
Once you're past that point, you can make great times out of anything. Just don't forget to stop reading the complaints here once you've got your groove on.
I just had one killer Sunday, the kind of Sunday that makes you consider re-signing for another round. It's all good. |

| Definitely a place of contrasts. The great things about this place far outweigh the minor hiccups that may occur. Good things about Korea, sitting on the beach around a fire at Cheongja and setting off fireworks, summer on the deck at the Jade restaurant having coffee with friends, being invited to a students home for dinner and being treated like royalty, the joy of teaching a great bunch of kids and watching their confidence and self esteem develop. It is a great place and my wife and I are back for year 4 and then some. Look for the good, there is plenty around. |

Sweet potato pizza or sweet potato cake, the "no squid fries beyond this point" sign at the theater, Lotteria's Well Being Life meal with a pea hamburger, thousand island dressing, a slice of tomato, and a slice of pineapple. Sweet and salty crackers. Bongo trucks with loud speakers. Driver's trying to go in reverse. And the thing that should make Korea famous and get some sweet soul a Nobel Prize:
1.5 liter beer bottles. |

Good Times.
Any time you meet a payment.
Good Times.
Any time you need a friend.
Good Times.
Any time you're out from under.
Not getting hastled, not getting hustled.
Keepin' your head above water,
Making a wave when you can.
Temporary lay offs.
Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs.
Good Times.
Scratchin' and surviving.
Good Times.
Hangin in a chow line
Good Times.
Ain't we lucky we got 'em
Good Times.
Sage advice in that song...sage advice... |

Good times...
Bridging cultural differences.
Making kids think in English without them knowing it.
Korean naivete. Hey, yeah, sometimes it's annoying, but it can also be pretty damn amusing, like my baby that keeps throwing her toy on the floor because she likes watching it fall. |

| hmm, club music in Korea you ask...well, living in the sticks I am not too au fait with the Korean club scene (if indeed there is a "scene"- seoul'd probably be the best place to find out). Daegu clubs seem to go in for a bit of house (classics mainly and verging on trance/prog), a bit of poppy stuff and some hip hop, runs a pretty similar line up to your cheesy little clubs anywhere in the UK . . . . |

Good times....
The look on my wife's face the first time she tried bondegie. (roasted silk worm?)
The look on my face when the church picnic turned out to be a full fledged dog BBQ. |
