Hi, all. I was just wondering what the current situation is with re-signing with the same school or transferring your visa to another school. I really do not want to go through the CRC etc. process, so if I could do this quickly and painlessly I would be very, very happy. |

If you re-sign with the same school you can do so without a new CBC and with no visa run. You file some papers, pay the fee, Immigration adds the new period of sojourn to the back of your current ARC and you are all set. Immigration will not make any entries in your passport when you re-sign, unless you also buy a multiple reentry visa at the same time, which you should do if you plan to travel.
If you change jobs and go to a new school, it is usually possible to do that as well without a new CBC. If you have not left Korea during your stay, or, at a minimum, if you have not returned to your home country during your stay, then you shouldn't need a new CBC. It is sometimes possible to do this without a visa run as well.
Of course, all depends on your specific details, which Immigration office you are dealing with, which worker is on duty, which supervisor is on duty, the time of day, the phase of the moon, and the health, well-being and recent mating history of the public servant assisting you. |

I just did this. I am going from one public school through GEPIK to another through GEPIK. All I needed to give was a transfer form from my current school and my new contract with the new school. That part costs 50,000 won. The new school will have to give you additional paperwork they have filled out. If you want a multiple entry visa, add 60,000 won. I was preparing for the worst, so in July I got a new CBC and had transcripts sent just in case I needed them. I am sitting here with them and immigration has my passport and ARC card. They said they will be finished in 1 week. As far as this goes, it's easy sailing.
The problem I encountered was where to actually go to get this done. My current school is in Pyeongtaek, which means it is handled through the Suwon immigration office. However, I am moving to Ilsan, which puts it in the hands of the Uijeongbu office. My co-teacher called, asked in Korean, and they said I should go to the Uijeongbu office because that's where the new school is at.
I went there yesterday (Friday), and they told me to go to the Suwon office because I haven't moved yet out of Pyeongtaek. I growled at them, lol, telling them I was told to go there. Then they suggested I change my address to the new school's address. I guess for the time being they think I am living at the new school, lol
I'll probably have to go to Uijeongbu again when I get my new address, but it saved me a trip to Suwon. It's easier to walk to the Uijeongbu office, and you don't have to wait as long. |
