I think I could were it not for these pesky things called work and hunger. Well, the urge to be more social is there too, but don't see that going too far any day soon. Lately trips outside have been only for work and store runs. So I guess it is impossible to be a real recluse. What would we call it when one only goes out when necessary? Recluse wannabe?

Maybe I can handle 2 more months in this city. By Jove, the past 4 or 5 have not been a joy.

I could. I like people but I would to live off the land and do my own thing. student loans prevent this lifestyle...

Honestly I've had a tendency towards reclusiveness my entire life. I'm experimenting with being more social while I'm in Korea, and it has its nice sides, but to be honest in the long run I'll probably go back to being reclusive. I really hate having to coordinate my plans with others.

I'm not THE most social person out there, admittedly I like my alone time. However, I do enjoy hanging out with friends and having a life, even if it's not going out all the time. I generally try to have a decent balance if possible. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to make friends in Korea when I go over there.

Other than my girlfriend, I rarely see or speak to anyone.

She likes to go out sometimes to bars and see others, but I stay home.

I don't mean to be anti-social. At nearly 31, perhaps I've grown up at long last.

I go for long walks up mountains at this time of year and eat pajeon and drink makolli afterwards - which I love - but it's always home before 10pm.

I am pretty reclusive myself. Most of the time I go to work and return home. I am only seen when I need to go out and get something. Those places know me, and they know my buying patterns. The local minimart knows exactly what I am going to buy if I come in at 11 pm. They also know exactly what I will buy if I go in at noon. The pizza place knows me when I call. I merely have to say 'waygookin' and show up 10 minutes later. It is quite funny. I enjoy my time alone, but I have some things I need to sort out in my life right now. Moving to another country (Thailand) is always a somewhat daunting task.

Recluse to loner is a hop skip and a thump.

I lived in Ulsan and Thailand. Thailand is far superior.

Yes, I came here from Thailand. There is no competition. I am freaking excited. I just have a bit of running around to do this weekend to take care of some last minute sightseeing. I will be glad to hand over my ARC at Gimhae soon!!!

There seems to be quite a few reclusive/anti-social types on this board (not just the ones posting on this thread). Personally after a while I get lonely if I'm just by myself all the time. I don't really understand the loner mindset, but to each their own...

I assumed you to be quite social.

I need 20 minutes of complete silence after work every day. After that, I'm fine.

People get tiring after a while. It is difficult for me to feign interest in the mundane details of someone's life. I feel no urge to share similarly uninteresting facts about my own.

But I do a pretty good job of 'faking' it.

So, after a long day of putting on a social face I feel very tired and weighed down. I seek solace in the quiet confines of my own space. Weekends are a time for me to recharge so I can again bear the burden of faking it the next week.

That being said, sometimes I will run across a genuine person. Someone who hasn't already made up their mind on all the issues. Someone who is willing to converse (not just talk and wait their turn) but not impinge on my private space. A person who is not encumbered by baubles and drama. Those rare souls I can spend hours with and feel better at the end of the day.

I'm a very social person who is forced into reclusiveness at the moment and I'm hating it ... I just moved back to Korea last week, and don't have any friends in my area at the mo. There is a really big staff of foreign and Korean teachers at my school, and also several foreigners in my apartment building, so I'm hoping to make some friends soon but I guess it takes time. I'll probably go downtown tonight by myself and see if I can meet any nice people.

I was usually very social but living here has gradually tipped me to the other end of the scale.I leave the house for work and for other social events or trips that are worth the effort, but I'm not in a particularly outgoing up-for-it phase. That may change.
