In something akin to the great wildebeest migrations in the Serengeti (spelling??), my head hair is repidly relocating en mass (spelling?) to my back and buttocks. Sorry ladies, i have no photos.

Getting haircuts therefore is even more traumatic- I kinda like the long scruffy look, but hate the thought that people think im doing it to compensate...so i cut short and it looks like crap. Fuzzes up everywhere and makes me look like a right berk.
Solution: stop looking in the mirror i guess.... but sometime you have to ...

But baldness is not the reason for my phobia of haircuts. Anybody else ever had this? Its got really nothing to do with vanity...or maybe it does i don't know.

I've always been prone to depression. I have all my life. But even as a kid i remember getting a haircut as being a real trigger for depression and associated lack of confidence- often lasting weeks until hair had groan back a bit...

Got a haircut last night. I even drew cartoons of how not to cut the hair (ie- drew a big head with adjoshie bowl cut, and emphatically crossed it out). I am now sporting an adjoshie bowl cut, and my whole day is crap. The slightest thing is pissing me off... have no motication for work.. don't wanna talk to anybody, just wanna ride my bike up in the hills and/or lock myself away in a room somewhere. Is this what women go through every month?

PHS- post haircut syndrome.

There's a great place to get a haircut in Jinju, costs 6,000 won. It's near the intercity bus terminal downtown. You're on the road the bus terminal is on, looking at it, and within sight of it and uphill of that main drag is the haircutters. It is like a 'blue club' but is not. The BEST cutter in there is the Korean (they're all Korean, of course) guy whose hair is blonde/orange-ish, and he's tall. Last I was there there's only one guy working there, the other cutters being women.

For the last two years I've been going there and nowhere else.

In my experience here and abroad, you get what you pay for with haircuts. Places that charge more have better stylists.. Places that charge more take their time.. Places that charge more shampoo, and massage your head.

A haircut should boost your confidence, not the other way around. Good luck next time.

I haven't had a haircut in 4 years, and I couldn't be happier. My hair is down to my ass. When I was in Korea, my hair was really long, and contrary to thought here on this board, most Koreans seemed cool with it - only one guy on the street yelling at me, many women eager to hook up.

try pulling off that look when you you have complete desertification of the front part of your melon except for a little mohawkish tuft of oasis down the front centre.

Not sure if ass-length (the length of my donkey???- i assume you mean arse) hair in the remaining bits really helps... unless of course its all piled up afghan/indian-turban style... Now THAT would work...is that still technically called a comb-over?

Not sure if i'd want ass/donkey/arse-length hair anyway..... I would worry the ends would get dirty as i drag my bottom over the carpet to get rid of worms...

I don't know, but I have some mild anxiety crap. A few things really freak me out. I don't know why, but the damn barber triggers it every single time. I loathe the thought of getting my haircut. This is not just in Korea, but everywhere. It triggers my anxiety and really makes me feel uncomfortable. I usually have a beer, bite the bullet, and just go. I know it is strange, but it has always been that way for me.

I feel the opposite. I get this weird sensation that when I get my hair cut, all the bad memories stored up over previous months get shed. It's like I'm being spiritually cleansed. I always walk out of the barber shop feeling like a new man, with a clean slate Very Happy

The only solution is to go Captain Picard and pretend that's how you like it.

My gawd, bald men can be so sexy! And at least you seem to have a sense of humor, and that's far more important than (not) having hair. Who cares!? All people love funny people and a man with a good sense of humor is always popular with the ladies Wink

Sport it with confidence is what I say!

Look, you can work around it. I have coworkers who have done a great job with it. First, don't think facial hair will hide baldness. Do not grow a beard (until your facial hair turns grey/white, then a short and closely cropped beard will work). Second, shave the head tight but not complete, keep your face closely shaved and ensure your attire is proper fitting (aka tight) and ironed. Do not be fat+bald. That's a dead end. If you're bald, a t-shirt can no longer be worn outside of the gym. Or sandals/shorts. Just deal with it. Button down and slacks. It is a clean look that baldies can pull off. Denim should be avoided. You can look sophisticated in your natural, baldass self. Don't whine about haircuts depressing you. Take what you got and work with it. Appearance is very important.

It's really.... hard, to be depressed in a Korea barber shop.

I usually just cut my own hair. It's very easy. Learning how to give a decent haircut is much, much easier than you would think.
