How do the Koreans discriminate against fat people? I read it a couple of places and was curious how so.
Thanks! |

One form is teasing: 뒈지선생 Pig Teacher from the students.
Another form is optimization: it's un-economical to cater for people of large body-size, so they don't bother.
They are not going to turn you away at restaurants because you might eat too much.
They are not going to forbid you to sit because you might break a chair.
They are not going to put you in a fat-farm.
Koreans do not say the great western putdown: you could lose a few pounds.
Pear shaped person is un-attractive in Korea.
All-in-all, much less than western societies, I'd say. |

| I think all Koreans have a M.A. in weight management because they sure like to give opinions and advice so openly. Some of them are about as subtle as 3 rd grade primary students with their comments and this continues well past 3rd grade to infinity. The amount of junk food places they have equals very fat Koreans now and more to come in the future. |

| The only real difference is they have no qualms about mentioning your weight problem directly in conversation, whereas Westerners might be more subtle or avoid the topic unless you bring it up first. |
