I probably posted this before I bought my Samsung NC-10. For any of you thinking about this netbook please do some research. It seems the wireless card is pretty junky. It keeps crapping out on me and I have to restart the machine repeatedly to get it to load.
Today on the bus the "w" key froze and kept repeating in the middle of a document. It seems to me that while this netbook (the NC-10) may have a good battery life it is far from roadworthy. And, the mouse button is just weirdly cheap compared to the design of most of the pc.
Anyway, I think I'll be selling this one off or passing it on to my niece or nephew. What do you techno-gurus consider a good netbook these days?
Key points for me at the moment are an easily swappable hard disk and RAM. The NC-10's RAM is easy but the hard disk replacement is a chore.
Long battery life and solid construction are next. I almost wish I had opted for the new HP netbook... solid chassis but terrible battery life and only 2 usb ports.
harumph...

My preference is all the Eee PCs floating around. There are enough different models to fit what you want, but I haven't seen any in Korea. That may be a big problem for you. I currently have the Eee PC 1000HA and don't regret it ever.
The RAM was incredibly easy to swap out (Eee PC purposely does that for all its models, as far as I know). I don't know about the HDD since I haven't had to mess with it.
The 1000HA model is about a year old, and its battery life is "up to" 5 hours, or 3-4 in real life with everything running. Some of the newer models, however, boast 9 hours (probably 7 in real life). Check them out, you may like them. |

Yeah, I was considering Asus' line especially the 1000 but opted for the local brand because of the warranty and the proximity of a shop to get it serviced. I remember now that some of the posts I'd read on Dave's here warned that Korea exports their solid stuff and keeps the B-stock in country. I wish I had thought about it more at the time of purchase. |

I opted for the 1005-HA from ASUS. Seems like a very solid little machine. Bit bulky, but that's the trade-off you need to make for having great battery life. Looks very slick when it's not all marked up with fingerprints. I bought it in the U.S. as it's apparently not available in Korea yet for some odd reason. |

Toshiba NB 205 works good for me. The 2 GB mem upgrade was cheap and easy & easily runs Windows 7. I paid $349 from PX mail order. My neighbor
(ESL teacher) bought a refurb ASUS 1000HE for $229 & had sent to my APO box-it's basically the same specs as my Toshiba and he's very happy with it.

I got an HP Mini 1010NR.
I only have 2 problems with it. First, it can get hot. Its really thin/light so there isn't much material shielding the RAM/CPU/Chipset to heat.
The 2nd problem is that it came with a 8GB flash SSD. I did a clean install of XP and Vista, and both times I got a "low disk space" as soon as I booted it up.
If you get a netbook, 16GB disk space is a must. Also make sure it has an expandable SD slot. The HP Mini's are praised because the keyboards are pretty big for a netbook. Another important thing is the touchpad. A touchpad that is awkward to use can ruin a perfect netbook.
By the way, I heard the next version of netbooks will come with dual Atom processors. Might be worth it to wait. |

regarding to low disc space issue, is it a 2gig machine? Windows defaults to having a page file 1.5x the size of the systems ram, meaning 3 gigs would be being soaked up just for that. That is really excessive for anything you'd be doing on a netbook. If you tone down the page file too a couple of hundred megs you might get rid of that warning.
I got a EEE 901 with a 4g and 8g SSD and an 8g SD card. Want to upgrade that to a 32g card soon. No major complaints but haven't had any experience with other netbooks so can't really compare. |

I have the HP Mini 1013NR.
It's exactly the same as the previous poster's but has 16GB solid state memory.
I only paid 500,000 brand new including an extra battery on Gmarket.
I love it! |

I bought the Toshiba NB200 a few weeks ago. Haven't used it much, mainly at restaurants and bars (still haven't installed Ubuntu on it, lazy man I am), but so far so good, no complaints. |
