I'll give you Beatles fanatics something else to base your argument on, but I'm simply asking for your preference.

Here is the list of best selling artists of all time worldwide:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists

Notice The Beatles at #1, but the rest of the bands I chose all sold over 100 million copies so whoever said Bon Jovi shouldn't have been included in this list think 100 million people have poor taste in music. Well, I guess that's possible, I think most Korean "bands" are terrible and there's 48 million South Koreans who worship EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

Sheer crap poll. Of course the Beatles are great... who cares... old news like the Stones... AC/DC Bon Scott era is great... Aerosmith has their moments, Bon Jovi is half way there to nowhere and the Eagles... 5 dudes who made good music together but hated eachother (according to VH1... like the rest they are all rather boring choices. One enormous thumbs down javascript:emoticon('Exclamation')

A list of the world's most popular meals would almost certainly include cheeseburger and fries alongside healthy and high quality Italian and Chinese dishes.

Different dishes serve different human needs. There's little value in gross statistics.

I voted Beatles, but I hardly ever listen to them. Actually, one album I play repeatedly is All Things Must Pass by George Harrison. It gets 8/10 (and not full marks) because it's too long and needs 30% chopping off - but the remaining 70% is golden. The only other band I like in the poll is the Stones, but again, I rarely play them these days - maybe overplayed them years ago. All the other groups in the poll have done a few songs I like, but that's the best I can say. It's always fun when Bon Jovi or AC/DC comes on in a bar - but their material hardly ranks amongst rock's most cherished. The only Aerosmith album from their 'classic' era I've heard is Toys in the Attic. I didn't get it - that's why I've never listened to more Aerosmith.

For classic rock, King Crimson's first three albums are astonishing:

1. In the Court of the Crimson King
2. In the Wake of Poseidon
3. Lizard

But I think their other stuff sucks.

You can't beat Tool.

Three more classic albums:

Yes, Fragile
The Zombies, Odessy & Oracle
Killing Joke, Killing Joke

Objectively the Beatles are the obvious winner for this poll. I just wish I could still enjoy their music like I used to. It's sheer overkill for me - as a young music enthusiast I personally listened to all their albums about twenty times, and then at home I still hear their songs all the time- at the supermarket, at the bank.... it became trivial and the magic just died for me. Of course that's not a judgment on their importance- nothing I listen to in the field of modern music would exist without the Beatles.

Somehow that didn't happen to the Stones, for me... I just listened to "Time Waits For No One" the other day. That song could never get tedious. On the other hand, at least the Beatles had the common decency to quit while they were ahead. You'd have to pay me to listen to anything the Stones have put out over the past 25 years.

Don't like any of the other bands on the poll.

I have never understood why the rolling stones are considered among the worlds top bands. I mean, "Hey, you get off of my cloud!" WT eff is that all about? I would have to put the rolling stones below bon jovi, actually, because back in the day, I remember liking at least one of their songs.

What about:

Gimme Shelter
Wild Horses
Parachute Woman
Jumpin Jack Flash
Waiting On A Friend
Tumbling Dice
Sweet Virginia
Winter
Angie

just the handful of songs that come to mind at the spur of the moment.

The Stones below Bon Jovi..... that's a good one

Aftermath (1966) is a very good Stones record. If their classic era is a little bit overrated, Aftermath is an underrated classic. The US version is better than the UK one.

Beatles are the best. Rolling Stones are also legends. Aerosmith is poo.

I voted for AC/DC because of personal preference. I can literally bang my guitar to donzens of their songs in a frenzy of manic, screaming distortion. I cannot do this with the beatles, alhtough I concede that they are more successful and better songwriters.

Which is the best band? The textbook answer in terms of popularity / sales is the Beatles, but in reality none of the bands on this list. One could argue the Grateful Dead was the best touring band of all time. The rest is a matter of personal taste.

King Crimson - awesome. Tool - uber-awesome.

Further to my previous comments on KC, I've just gotten into their 4th album - Islands. I like it, especially Ladies of the Road.

Wild Horses is OK, but I like covers of it much better than the original.
