Well, to each his/her own of course. Smile I think it's quite admirable for you to do that.

For me, eh... maybe I'm just a old bag (young bag?) for a number of reasons.

Anyway, I think my dad is a lawyer, or something (I think) so he can defend himself better than I can.

can you clarify this statement for us non-Christian people? Maybe you can provide the proper context and whatnot so I don't misunderstand it.

in this section i think that he is not saying to give up family and possessions to follow truth, but that in comparison to your devotion to God, they count as loss

djsmnc are you referring to mt. 10:37 or..?

I don't know what verse it's from. I saw it in a movie when I was flipping tv channels as a kid!

personally I wouldn't do it. If a police officer asked me any question I'd just not talked to them. If they approached my dad to ask him questions I'd actually act as his lawyer for the time being and tell him not talk and incriminate himself.

My dad hasn't given me a good life. That is to say I've lived in poverty my entire life because of his shortcomings and suffered for it but whatever this life is, he gave it to me so I feel some kind of primitive instinctual obligation to help him live and that means not letting him go to jail. It would also make my mom (who is a crazy Japanese person) sad and hysteric so not having to deal with that is an additional bonus.

Congratulations on making it!
