I'd like to stay in Korea after my year teaching. One option is to go to Japan and come back on a tourist visa (costs about 200,000). I'd like to avoid the cost of this, if possible.

It's been mentioned on this board that you can extend your E-2 visa for 30 days online without leaving the country, and the context was for the purpose of travelling in Korea. Can I extend my E-2 visa, travel, and be independent of my employer? ..or does this status of my visa change? Should I apply for an extension of my current visa or a change of status of the visa?
