|
|
So I've been married a year now and got a message saying I will need to renew my F-2-1. Thing is, my marriage status hasn't changed, they still have the same marriage certificate I had before, so what do I need to renew? Seems dumb, but then having to show a degree, transcripts and new criminal record cheack every year if I change jobs on an E-2 seems dumb when I've never left the country.
I'll call the hotline, but they have often given me wrong information and I've wasted time going down to immi only to have to do it again. |

I just renewed my F-2 in Masan for another year. Anyways, it was really easy. The only document I needed was my wife's family info, which was two documents that she got from the city office. Your wife will know what it is. Immigration took those documents for me. Paid the price which is 20,000 won and got a multiple-entry visa which was an additional 50,000. The biggest pain was just getting there. |

Would that be her Ju-min-deung-lok-deung-bol (not just her ID Card, but some extra form you get from a city office) ? |

You don't even need to be there yourself. You can just have your wife go down with both your family registry, passports/ARC and her ID and and she fills out a form. If you own your own place, you don't need to take your rental contract, and both of your certificates of employments (if she's working). I think it costs 50,000 won. (This was for Seoul - Sejongno)
That's it. |

How bout if I go and she doesn't? A few years back a buddy went in alone to renew his F-2, but things have changed. |

Its a renewal, not an issuance. I went alone for mine...twice. I needed my ARC and passport, that's all. Last time I went was in February this year.
Those immi guys are real sticklers...I was penalized for reporting a change of address late...3 year wait to get my F5...again. Ugh...

The immigration hotline said I have to bring:
My passport
My ARC (Alien Registration Card)
My wife's Ju-min Deung-lok Pyo (주민등록표) Her citizen registration information (not her card, but a form that you can get from the local Gu office)
My wife's Ka-jok Kwan-jung-myung Sa (가족관계증명서) Family proof form (also from the Gu office)
and
You need to download (from immigration.go.kr) and have your wife fill out this form (if you wish to go alone)
신원보증서 Shin-won Bo-jung So which is roughly translated as a person's credibility guarantee form (she has to fill in the form as your guaranteur)
As always once there you will have to fill out the F-2-1 renewal form and supply a picture. |

Ever since I got the F5, my whole life changed...I feel so FREE. No more immigration - ever. Never have to step foot in an immi office again. It's nice to flash the green card and tell them that they can't treat me differently because I'm a foreigner. I always make sure to flip the card over to the back where it says "NEVER EXPIRES" - that always makes me smile |

Not entirely true. I had to go to immi when I had my passport renewed and let them have a copy for their systems.

went to immigration
3 things were different
The officer asked that my wife be there.
She did not take the 신원보증서 (but as some other officer might....bring it anyway).
You need the 혼인관계증명서 (marriage proof form) not the 가족관계증명서
I got my renewal without those 3 things but now I have to fax the other document. Nice of them, but I wonder why it is they can be so clueless about their own rules and unable to tell people on the phone what to bring or able to post these requirements legibly on the internet. I hate that site, it's pointless.
Things like "The foreigner must bring all documents to renew visa." are not helpful.
also she did not need my picture. Seems they don't need them for renewals. |
