no it hasn't.
I say 9 out of 10 nigerians in Itaewon harrass me. Im not saying all are icky, just the ones ive come in contact with. I have met maybe 2 that are really nice and genuine guys with good jobs and interesting things to say. This isn't a post about Sara being racist....so move on i don't want to argue with you and your stupid tries at snuffing me. |

No way. The monthly pay for an E-7 with 14 years in is $3139, about $36K/yr. An E-7 with 7 years in (I have doubts, unless he's a combat arms MOS he probably wouldn't make E-7 that quickly, and even then it's doubtful) makes around $33K/yr. Now that's not counting seperate rats, BAQ, COLA, and other stuff, but even with that added in there's no way he's making over 50 grand unless he's working the black market selling cigarettes and booze or something.

Officers are smart? What exactly is required of an officer? A bacheleors and a trip through OCS. Whoopdie frickin' do. I pulled off a bacheleors while I was working full time as one of those "not terribly bright" enlisted guys.
Oh, and by the way, I didn't have to get myself up to my eyeballs in debt, or soak my parents for tens of thousands of dollars in order to do it. |

He has 12 years in and makes about 4200 a month and gets big bonus' two times a year.

I have never been in the army but just want to say that I agree with Hank. Alex, how exactly do you think you have the right to insult everyone who has every joined the army.
I have friends overseas...risking their lives...who chose to go into the army...people with degrees...who just made a choice to do something they felt was worthwhile. I hate to sound like a school yard kid...but you should take that back...
and on an interesting note...that is what a lot of people think of esl teachers...not too bright...overseas because they couldnt find a job back home...true for you Alex???.... |

An E-7 with 12 years makes $2980 a month, base pay. Seperate rats is around $150 a month extra, give or take. COLA fluctuates depending on the currency rates, but to be very generous I'll chalk it up to an extra $200. That brings us up to $3330, almost a full $1000 short of what you're quoting. Does he live offpost or on post? If he lives offpost he'd get BAQ, but it would be nowhere near a grand.
Two big bonuses? It's rare, very rare, that you get "yearly bonuses", and if so, I've got to ask what his MOS is. I got bonuses for enlisting and reupping in the infantry, but it definitely wasn't yearly, the DOD just doesn't pay out bonuses like that. Are you counting clothing allowances or something? That's like a yearly $200 bonus, but nothing that I'd refer to as a "big bonus".
Sorry to be pedantic here, but I just think that either you're exaggerating, or he is. |

Okay... He's an ADA guy. Not a really "specialized" MOS, but that's neither here nor there.
If he's got dependents then that's a whole other kettle of fish, and explains a lot. I was assuming that he was completely single, but if he's got dependents then that'll definitely up the monthly pay. |

It is much easier to hop over to Guam or Saipan and get married then to go through the paperwork in the US military, the embassies and seoul city hall. That process, which includes a security background check on you takes about three months while Guam is just a weekend trip away.
However, since you are a foreigner I think you will still have to go through a security check before you can get an ID and ration card. You'll be married but you won't have post priveledges....I think. Basically, it is well known that the Guam/Saipan route is the easiest for people in your situation.
As an Irish person you can just get a ticket to the US and at some point after arriving go to the INS with your husband and get the appropriate residency status. You do not have to apply for citizenship.
I would not go to the US embassy in Seoul and file paperwork that will hopefully catch up to you in Ireland or the USA...trust me, it will not catch up to you. |

I guess that is true in some cases...
Can you imagine how many Koreans would join the Korean military if they had a deal like the US military? Sometimes I think the young Koreans are jealous of the US military. |
