| I fly out for Seoul this Saturday for a year and after reading the forums about job cuts in SMOE, I am worried that they might cut me when I get there. I was supposed to get my TEFL certificate for 100 hours before I'm supposed to leave but it seems that the website at koredinco is down and the professors aren't responding to any of my tests or the final exam that I took in the past 2 weeks. Will they cut me if I don't have the certificate? |

| Try not to worry, as easy as that sounds. I do know they are yanking people's chains these days. It makes me glad I didn't apply through them. If they cut you, we can go job hunting together or we can go have some drinks where I know the people who work there. At least I know some people here who won't let me starve to death...Thank heavens. |

I think if you have the visa stamped in your passport you dont have anything to worry about. |

If you mean getting in, you are correct.
As far as a job goes, you aren't guaranteed [Mod Edit], some have been sent home packing and not reimbursed for their flight. |

Really? I'd read about people being dropped before they'd left their home countries, but not about people being sent home or told there is no job for them after they had arrived. Do you have a link to any thread? |

| If the original poster was cut, would they be able to do a visa run to Japan since they already got an E2 (even though it wasn't really used)? If so, the next school would pay for it. |

Looking like I was wrong. Considering all the people posting who got notice mere hours before flying, theres bound to be some actually show up unawares.
Shocking. Shameful. |

| If you are cut upon arrival that will be your recruiter's fault. SMOE told recruiters to cut X amount of people. It is the recruiter who decides who is actually cut. SMOE is to blame for overhiring, but if you are cut while in flight, that is your recruiter's doing. They should be aware of when people are arriving and not cut folks already on the way. However, from some of the things I'm hearing, it's the higher salaried more experienced teachers getting knocked first. Makes me wonder if there is an incentive for keeping cheaper teachers. Like I said, that's just me wondering. |

I don't see this last comment.
If you are on your way to Korea, then you already have your visa stamped in your passport. That means SMOE got the visa for you, not the recruiter. You are SMOE's responsibility at that point, not the recruiter's. |

Yes, because there's no way a hagwon would ever screw over an employee. |
