I've been working for EG in Daechi for two months, and I have a terrible boss. He's already fired three people since I arrived, and he's been very unhappy with me lately. His qualms with foreign teachers are either made-up or ridiculously inconsequential. I'd go into the details but it would take more time than it's worth.
In any case, it doesn't matter. I'm going to be fired soon. How much time do I have to leave the country after I'm canned? Do I have any legal recourse? How can I get this company black-listed, or at least prevent other foreigners from being employed by EG? |

How long have you worked there? Is he firing foreign teachers late in contracts to avoid paying severance and the flight home?
Don't believe everything other foreign teachers tell you. They may be illegal teachers or simply full of crap. Any legal action you take will have to be by yourself and for yourself only. Also, don't count on anyone else else to testify for you- they are all cowards. That's why you need to keep as much documentation as possible.
If you are fired, get it in writing. Unless it is in writing, then you are not fired and keep reporting for work. If you do get it in writing, please post. |

1- You have 2 weeks from the end of your last day BUT you have to go to Immigration to get your exit order BEFORE your last day.
2- If they fire you without giving you 30 days notice or 30 days pay in lieu or try to evict you, Labor will help. If they don't fire you, there's no action to take against them.
3- Legally, you can't. By interfering in their business and harming their reputation (even if what you say is true) then you are on the hook for defamation and they can come after you for damages. And tracking down a disgruntled ex-employee is not exactly rocket science. |

Look for the Korea Labor Standards Act which gives you the labor laws and read them. Below is the Dave's sticky post on them:

Like he said, the Korean defamation laws are rather odd. The truth doesn't seem to matter that much. Don't trash a school online using your own name or information that can easily be attributable to yourself.
In general, if you are fired, I believe you could locate another job whose boss will help you work things out on visas and such... |

A Korean court recently ruled that the truth is a defense against a charge of slander/libel. The caveat is two-fold, though: what you state must be (1) true, and (2) "for the betterment of society." |

Really? Wow! I feel less claustrophic now, knowing that a person can advertise their opinion of being treated wrong in a reasonable manner.
"for the betterment of society" is very subjective though. I was wondering, how do the TV channels do investigative journalism if you can't mention anything that could cause a loss of business? |

| If you've ever watched the Korean TV news, have you ever noticed the only investigative journalism they do on things like illegal polluting --- targets small business? Or that when the cover a pollution story that does touch on the chaebol (conglomerates) they do not use the name of the company and mosaic out the company logo or name on the building if they are doing part of the reporting at the scene of the factory? |

Young FRANKenstein, will you admit wrong here, or will you claim ignorance? |

| Some people claim that the current president is trying to restrict freedom of speech. This court decision seems to do the opposite. |

But that only applies to media outlets and the like, who have a "duty" to the truth. It does not protect the average citizen who has no such duty. |

I claim that his answer was incomplete. |
