Im currently in Korea working at a hagwon and submitted a clean local background check when i started. If I want to go to a different hagwon or public school after my contract, will i need 2 submit a state level background check?
Also, if i need 2 submit a state check, will it be OK to get one from a different state than the one on my passport and local check was from? |

As of now, you will need new documents if you change schools at any time in the future. If you don't finish your contract, you may need to actually return home, have another interview, etc. It all depends. |

Depending is the answer. Lets say you lived in Arizona while you went to University, but your from California - yes. Another example is your degree says New York and Your Passport says filled in New York, your resume says New York Businesses, and your CRC is from Florida - Naah that would raise questions. But of course you are dealing with bureaucrats who generally are not the most brightest or hard working so you might be able to get away with it. |

If you don't leave Korea, then you don't need a new background check. |

Carla your are expecting logic where there is usually none. Your are expecting the government not to want a NEW CRC because she has not been back thus able to cmmit some new crime to go on the record. NO this is is Korea with its petty ante rules and some times massivle mind blowing stupidity. Simple advice is you move to a new school get a new record check. It's a bitch but it should be done. |

I'm just going off the fact that I haven't heard anybody say they were rejected when getting a new E-2 with no CBC when they have not left the country. But I have heard people say they did it without a new CBC. The immigration website does not cover this particular topic, so I'm just following what others are saying this time. |

I know a lot of people who have been in the same situation as you and none of them have been asked to get a new background check.
However, the various immigration offices don't seem to apply the rules very consistently. Maybe you should get one just to be sure. |

Because some people have slipped through the cracks does not mean that it is the rule.
The Immigration rules state that if you re-apply to the same school, you don't need a new CBC.
If you apply to a new school then you do. Unless they have changed in the last few months...that is the situation.
Yes, it is possible to get through with outdated or old documentation...but if you get a over-zealous official who wants to make sure every "i" is dotted and every "t" is crossed...then you could land in a pot of trouble. |

Without a doubt, I agree totoally, a lot of people slip through the cracks. Like the local vs. state backgrounc checks. Some people get by with local, even though they aren't supposed to. I just haven't see where it talks about gettings a new visa without leaving Korea. Do you have a link to that? I plan on registering my degree when I get there, so hopefully that's one last thing to worry about. I prefer to be completely/over prepared than missing stuff. |

So I called immigration today to ask about background checks.....
If I resign I dont have to resubmit a CBC..
if I get another job I do and....
They are requesting federal checks now....
ME:"But is a state CBC still acceptable?"
"Some states are not acceptable"
ME:"Which ones?"
"The Immigration officer will determine when u submit it"
ME:"Who can tell me which are and are not.. Who has that list?"
"The Immigration officer will determine if it is acceptable when u submit it"
ME: WTF?? |
