The wife have now decided we are going to Boracay over the Christmas holidays. If anyone has been to Boracay I would love to hear your reviews.
How did you get there? What airlines seem to be the cheapest from Seoul? What resort did you stay at? Would you recommend it? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! |

How high is up?
You have 2 options.
fly to manila and then change to a domestic flight and fly to either Caticlan or Kalibo.
Fly to Cebu and nd then change to a domestic flight and fly to either Caticlan or Kalibo.
Just scan back through this forum and you will find all you need to know.
As to resort recommendations - they run from a hut on the back side of the island (800 meters from white beach) and php800 per day on the low end to front and center on white beach by station 3 and over php25000 per night.
try http://www.boracay.com for general information and pricing on resorts.
Be adviced that Boracay is a rock with a sand beach and is only 7km long and 1km wide. You are captive there and outside of beach and disco activities there isn't much else (especially since the old market burned down).
Perhaps you would be more interested in something like the Alona Palm resort ( http://www.alonapalmbeach.com/ ) on Panglao. (fly to manila and transfer to a flight to Tagbilaran - day flights and not red-eye flights). It is in the same price range as the Hilton, offers 4*+ amenities and service, is on a natural white sand beach, and within easy reach of the city for:
shopping,
Bird Watching,
Cave Exploration,
Dolphin & Whale Watching,
Mountain Biking,
Sailing,
Scuba Diving,
and Trekking
if you get tired of the beach and bar scene. |

Caticlan is now being serviced only by SE Air. If you fly any other airline to get to Boracay, it'll go to Kalibo.
SE Air is also pricey, a lot more than Zest Airways or Philippines Airlines. |

Boracay = the Torremolinos of SE Asia.
I almost said Ibiza, but that honour goes to Ko Samui.
Have fun! |

it's really really REALLY beautiful and you are going there when the island is the most beautiful!!
You will Love LOVE it.
I went there 2 years ago in early January, and it was just so beautiful.
I am dying to go back some time soon.
I don't remember all the names of resorts and restaurants but I remember that you should wake up early in the morning to see the beach.
It's just unforgettably amazing. |

Be prepared to pay a lot more over the Xmas holidays, that place will be packed tighter than a sardine can. |

I did not stay in a resort, but in one of the innumerable mom-and-pop hotels that cover the west side of Boracay. I stayed in "Roy's Rendezvous" and it was a cluster of little huts on stilts that was fun to stay in. There might be higher-end places, but keep in mind it is not a big island.
There were lots of Koreans when I was there, but most tended to stay off the beach except for photos and to occupy the Korean restaurants, leaving the rest for everyone else! How sad.
You can rent bicycles to travel around the island, but Filipino roads are poor and Boracay can be hilly. Renting a motorbike is better as long as you're a careful driver.
Boracay has perhaps the prettiest sunsets I've seen in my life.

If you really want to catch the sunset take one of the boats off of White Beach. They will take you out for about an hour at sunset and it shouldn't cost more than 500-750 pesos. These boats were located at Station 3 when I was there in July.
If you want to be in the middle of everything I would suggest looking for a resort at Station 2. This is where D'Mall and a lot of the restaurants are. The prices here might be a little more expensive than other places but I loved being able to walk out and sit at a bar with my feet in the sand listening to live music at Charlh's Bar. If you're a fan of classic rock then you have to check out Charlh's Bar as the lead singer of the house band sounds just like the lead singer from Eagles.
I stayed at the Villa de Oro and I wouldn't recommend it to a couple (at least not my room) but it was fine for me since I wanted to stick to a tight budget as far as rooms went. I met some teachers staying at Nigi Nigi and they seemed to enjoy it.
I would check out www.nexttour.co.kr for your flight. You'll probably have to fly to Kalibo (Korean Air actually has a flight directly from Incheon to Kalibo now) but the drive to Caticlan is worth it as you wind up mountains right along the coast and get a spectacular view. When you get to Kalibo there will be vans waiting and they'll likely charge 200 PhP per person ($4 USD) for the hour and a half trip.
I went during low season so everything will be a bit more expensive when you go.
You'll have a great time. What type of activities are you hoping to do? I did a ton of stuff and can suggest some pretty good places to scuba dive, jet ski, island hop and all that stuff as I was on a pretty tight budget yet still did everything I wanted to and had plenty of money left over.
Edit: If you're looking for a good steak then you need to check out The Hobbit House in D'Mall. The steak was fantastic, beer was a little pricey but they have the best selection on the island. This restaurant is actually a tourist attraction because all of the waiters are small people (politically correct?). |

We stayed at Orchids Resort at station 3. It was very quiet and had a nice beach area about 3 minute walk from resort. Nothing fancy, but it was cheap. Owner is American. Staff was helpful. Drawback was having to walk to station 2 where most restaurants were. Here is link to resort:

You sure you got the bar's name right? I thought it was Charles Bar, not Charhl's Bar, but I could be wrong.
And the bus ride from Kalibo to Caticlan is closer to two hours. |

It's Charlh's Bar. I thought the name was odd and spent a lot of time trying to figure out if you pronounced it like Charles until the bartender actually said the name. I'll never forget that because I spent a lot of time staring at the sign |

Been 3 times this year, 6 in total. I have friends on the island that take good care of me when I visit, and I really prefer an active nightlife when I travel so it works out great for me.
All the above info is pretty spot on. |

I was there the first of August. Catalan has been closed for a while now due to some planes skidding off the runway. I had to fly into Kalibo and then take a cramped van ride for 1.5 hours to Boracay. We only ran over one chicken on the way which wasn't bad considering how crazy the driver was.
I would return to Boracay as long as I could fly into Catalan otherwise I'd goto a different island. Boracay is very touristy, but its nice nonetheless.
So many Koreans there during summer and Europeans in the winter. |

The airport's name is Caticlan and it's supposed to reopen in December, but it's not for certain.
Korean Air offers direct flights from Incheon to Kalibo in the summer but the prices and schedules are not that hot.
I've been to Boracay three times since 2007 but I'm also thinking of somewhere else to go. Any suggestions? |
