After narrowly avoiding it last semester, I was just informed that I will be teaching a 90 minute online class once per week.

Any public school teachers have experience with this?

I observed two of these classes a few months ago and they seemed pretty ineffective/disorganized/worthless (why am I surprised?)

I admit my first 2 weeks were disorganized, I wanted to pull my hair out because there were so many technical problems. But after that, I got into a routine. I don't know what you'll teach, here's what I did to make my lessons more effective and interactive. I followed the textbook. I used flashcards before presenting my PPT lesson. Within the PPT, I made students listen and repeat, and then role-play the dialogues. I also uploaded related songs from youtube as a review. I know that's a lot of work to prepare, but hey it worked for my students. Kids love games and puzzles so you can upload those from the net, but again a lot of searching though.

Good luck!

Thanks.

It sounds like a lot of effort for just one 90 minute class per week. It also happens to be my last class on Friday afternoon.

I'll make the best of it though. Maybe it will surprise me and be OK.

Once you do it once, you're done.... and can save it forever.

(or the school can, and fire your butt!) Surprised
