My hagwon is making me pay for the health check that is required for me to get my alien registration card. Is this normal?

If so, how approximately much does it cost?

Most people have to pay for theirs. Mine was about 85,000 altogether.

Here's the previous thread about it:

I paid 100 000 at Jesus Hospital in Jeonju.

They seriously tested me for colorblindness and hearing loss. I guess I'm of no use here if I can't distinguish muddy green from red. It was an interesting experience.

Well, if you teach your kids that something is blue, when it is really not blue...

They typically cost around 80-100 000 won.

If you kick up a stink about it they will probably pay for you, but it isn't worth it.

EPIK is supposed to pay, but often don't as was the case for me, because it's not stated in my contract. It was like 75,000 for a urine and blood test. This included a hospital registration fee for a card I probably will never use again. Not sure about hagwons as I didn't have to get one when I got a hagwon job nearly 3 years ago. It's something to inquire about when negotiating for a job and maybe be put into your contract.

I also thought about kickin a stink, but I'm going to pick my battles.
They treated me to a coule expensive dinners for the hell of it so far and I know they cost more than the 40 something k for my health check.

Mmmmm 막걸리.

The sashimi was crunchy, highly reccomend you stay away unless you are ironclad in food. Near Travel channel ironclad.

I must be unlucky I paid 130,000won just last week. I did not have to pay last time I got one, so this was really unexpected. Also, she asked me if I had an insurance card, which I did, but never thought to bring it. It was from the job I just left last month so I am not sure it would have been in effect anyway.

Ask if the local clinic is OK (it should be). Bogwhansa is a govt run clinic that can do a med.check for you. Itll cost maybe 20 bucks.

Alot of Korean employees get their med. check ups there too, unless the company is footing the bill.

Yep, Bo-gun-so are cheap. You can get immunizations there too. Not sure what they cost back home, but I got my first and second shots for Hep B vaccine there, and they cost me 4500 and 3400 won respectively. Every Gu has one (or more?)
