Hey all,
I've got a few questions about living at the dorms at Suyu english village.
1. How did you like it?
2. How was the food, noise level of the kids at night, etc?
3. Can you drink/have a significant other over/do general "adult" stuff?
4. Are there any decent goshiwons I can go to if I get sick of the place? |

Hope this doesn't come too late...
SEV's not too bad. Suyu's a nice neighborhood to live in, and Itaewon and Hongdae are each about a 20 minute cab ride away.
We live on campus, near the kids. You don't hear them at night, but teachers are also expected to keep the volume to a reasonable level past 10 p.m. Our apartments aren't gigantic, but they're livable.
Food is pretty awful, to be frank. It's Korean cafeteria food, plain and simple. Sometimes we'll luck out with a decent meal, but more likely than not, you either grumble through dinner or get something at a nearby restaurant (one of the perks to living in Suyu is that restaurants are incredibly inexpensive). We do get a "western" breakfast every day--toast, peanut butter, jam, sometimes sausages, bacon, fruit, muffins, etc.
As far as having people over, it's not a problem when there are no students staying the night. If there are no overnight kids, you can bring whomever you like to spend the night. But if there are kids, no Korean visitors. If there are kids here, you also have to clear the sleepover with the boss who's pretty cool. Just say it's a cousin or relative and they can stay up to 6 nights (this only goes for foreigners...they need to bring a passport). Drinking is fine, just not in front of kids, which isn't too hard when you generally don't see them past 6 p.m. Oh, and you can have guests (Korean or foreign) and not have to clear it with anyone until around 10 p.m. Just sign them in and you're good to go.
