That's not the point of kimchi refrigerators, but that's another issue.
OP, go to E-mart and try those refrigerator deodorizers. They are made of charcoal. It worked wonders for me and removed the rotten stink left behind by a pig of a previous teacher. |

Yeah deodorizers are a must when moving in.
Also, keep an eye out for mold! If you see any in wardrobes or on the walls, get some of those moisture absorbing packs. I don't know the proper name but they come in plastic canisters and usually have pink lids. |

Try those little plastic containers with the hippo on them. There's two kinds: one is for dehumidifying your closet/storage space and the other is to get the smell out of your fridge. The first is called "물 먹는 하마" and the one for the fridge is called "냄새 먹는 하마" Both work really well and the dehumidifying agent/deodorizing agent turns to liquid when they have expired. |

They get very little of the actual moisture out of the air.
You need to get a dehumidifier to really suck the water out of the air and avoid mold. |

I was talking about a small contained space (i.e closet), not a living room or bedroom. For a closet, they're perfectly fine. |

Baking soda actually works over time.
Get a Costco-sized 5.5 kg bag of baking soda, clean out the frigde with baking soda and water, wipe dry and put a bowl of baking soda in the fridge. Change it every week or every few weeks until the smell is gone.
I had a kimchi-smelling fridge and it worked on it. The freezer always had a weird smell, though. |

If you can find the answer to this question, you will win the noble prize.
Nursing homes, hospitals, camp toilets, are all seeking the solution. Basically go at it like this:
How can I get the smell of a turd out of a compact area.
You are on your way to fame, keep us informed |
