Mongolian is bad, sounds like someone with stones in their mouth mangling Japanese.

As for most annoying, Vietnamese would win for me, just sounds absolutely horrid. Korean is just 'so-so'. Favorite Asian language would have to be Japanese. Mandarin is okay, depending on who is speaking it.

A lot of Eastern European languages sound horrendous too.

Best-sounding language would have to be English, as it's the greatest language in the world.

Vietnamese is the most annoying. I haven't heard much Thai so I can't comment on that.

Chinese can be a bit overwhelming too. Especially if you have a group of people talking all at once (Tai Sai table at the Casino for example).

Yes, Vietnamese. During my time in Vietnam, I asked a Frenchman what he thought of the language and he said this: "The Vietnamese language feels like waking up in the middle of a thick rain forest after the rains, when the birds are all singing and I have a horrible hangover." Yeah, I can appreciate that.

Actually I kinda liked it.
Its probably extremely difficult to learn but it sounds at least somewhat sophisticated.

Worst languages to me are generally all the Asian ones. The sounds to an english speaker tend to resemble some sort of juvenile baby-talk and are usually gabbed at high speed and high pitch.

Nicest languages of course are all western European.

Very true! I mean take German. Hearing German being spoken by some older, stern sounding person can be downright scary...but it's not so bad when a younger woman speaks it.

Maybe not linguistically technically correct but to a non-trained ear......

Korean: aeeeooooo uh uh uh waeeeeoooo imnida ni da ni da...ooooooooo

Korean sounds like a petulant sulky 4 year old about to cry.... even the men sound like this. Only in the war movies does the korean language not sound whiny and girly. Adjuma speech in the market place is a completely different animal. Cackling chickens is an approximate example

Chinese Mandarine: shh ch zh shhhh meeeeeoooow shhh chh... something cross between an indignant cat and a steam train.

Chinese Cantonese: not even going to try to write how it sounds... but basically something like an angry cat with torrets syndrome

Japanese- watashi kattagattawattagattbatta.. ashitti bashi gattamatta gattbatta.... Sounds cool, but does sound at times like a rock in the spin drier

German- when spoken by young attractive female, it sounds incredibly sexy... when spoken by old short bald man, sounds almost comical in a Dad's army or whatever it was style. When spoken by anybody else, harsh and gutteral

British english- mostly good... can sound highly intellilectual or completely stupid, depending on the speakers background.

Australian english- mostly uneducated.

Canadian english- bland. boring.

American... wide range... mostly harsh to the ears. New york accent makes my ears bleed.

South african/kiwi..... similar sounding... mostly irritating, but can on occasion (when tinged with british) sound pretty cool.

French- gay.

I don't like the sound of Spanish. It's too fluid or something, doesn't sound like language. Just noise, like someone humming randomly.

I went to the Netherlands before Germany and people who think German sounds harsh make me laugh. After listening to Dutch for a week, German was so soft.

Man you must be perpetually pissed, no matter who you're around. I would suggest sign language and the company of the deaf as the way forward for you.

Which languages do you simply find grating for whatever reason?

1. Thai
I really don't like much about it at all. It sounds all nice coming from the airport, but when listening to the average Thai person I'm reminding of the aliens from Mars Attacks--"Ack...ack ack, ack ack ack"

It's the tones. Combined with the ridiculous nasally sound they force onto it. Mostly what I can't stand about the Thai language though are the two words the "kha" and "khrap" that they attach onto the end of every single phrase they utter (polite), and also means "yes". Anyone who's had to sit in a taxi and listen to a radio show will know what I'm talking about. It's simply maddening...

chinese:

if you hear them speaking fast in cantonese with pissed off tone, it's freaking annoying but at the same time, hilarious. sounds like a retarded cat about to die in pain. you just can't help but grin at least once.

Japanese:

wattashiwa gomenazu gomenazai ashitawa konnechiwa , most of time, listening to japanese girls makes me want to dropkick a baby.

korean:

opppa opppa opppa! STFU!

vietnamese:

you are just making a sound with your tongue the most annoying way you can possibly imagine.

Didn't someone make a post on Dave's once about the Chinese use of the word "niga" to mean "look at that" and the poster's (black) friend was watching a basketball game with a couple of Chinese students who kept pointing at the screen and say "NIGA!" "NIGA!"?

I had posted something like that. When I was in Canada my coworker had to go to China to fix one of our systems here. He's not black, he's a giant white guy (the chinese insisted we send a white employee, not a chinese one, because the chinese ones who had been there before hadn't fix it). There were more than a couple at least 6, and they were all shouting "niga" "niga" over and over. Because of the stigma in the west on the word, he was just uncomfortable with that.

the vowel endings allow for extremely whiny extended endings ("하지마아아아아아... 추어어어어어... 진짜아아아아아...")

You've never heard a whiny college co-ed saying "stop iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit" they don't do it as much, but it still exists. The final consonant often gets eaten.

I hate french..but that is because I was born on the french/english battlelines in Canada and forced to learn it for my "future". Helps me a lot now.
