If you could permanently wipe one clichcharacter, plot, anythingfrom the future of culture, what would it be?

One thing that comes to mind is the romantic comedy clich when the protagonist runs to the airport to tell someone not to get on a plane, because they should be together or something.

Another is when someone from out of town goes into a bar and everyone stops and stares at them, and it gets really quiet and tense.

What clichs bother you the most?

Someone jumping out of a building toward the camera just as it explodes in the background. So tired of that shot.

The two crime-fighters who initially can't stand each other but learn to complement each other by the end.

Movies where aliens attack Earth, but it's always a major US city. Aliens never seem to land in or attack Mongolia or Namibia. (In the next post someone will name a movie!)

Films set in medieval England where everyone speaks the constipated Victorian accent that Hollywood thinks is Shakespearean or Middle English.

The one where there's an amazing sight, like a UFO or something, and a nearby drunk stares wide-eyed, looks at his bottle of booze, then throws it away......

The Disney movie where, just as something bad is about to happen, the cute dog puts his paws over his eyes.

Ha. I'll add: Michael Bay's ubiquitous pan shots and directorial choices in scoring. Pretty much just Michael Bay. And Bruckheimer productions. Banality endless.

Some other things:

- Front distance shot of all major characters walking side-by-side
- Heist scene in which one of the heistmen leaps over a counter
- Greek or Biblical epics in which everyone speaks in a British accent

Good one. That one has been overplayed to the point where if you see a drunk, you know he's going to do that.

How about cop shows where the main cop has an Irish surname and at one point, the captain tells him to turn in his badge and/or tells the cop he knew and worked with his father and his father wouldn't want this.

What was the cliched saying that quickly got overplayed? "Last time it was business...this time...it's personal" Is that it

For what? I clicked on the link and read some of it but couldn't find anything related to this thread.
Roger Ebert is my all time favorite movie critic. I remember when Sneak Previews was on public television during my youth, before the major networks picked it up.

Unconventional cops who can't work within the system.

Holding a dying loved one in one's arms whilst screaming, "Somebody help me!!!"

Movies titled "(verb)-ing + (name)", e.g., Educating Rita, Finding Forrester, Saving Private Ryan, Chasing Amy, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, etc.

Car chases where they crash into a fruit cart.

Out of bullets? Throw your gun at them.

Opening the medicine cabinet mirror where we see the villain in the reflection.

The killer who talks.

The villain's got the gun and he can just pop the dude and be done with it, but nooooooo, he's gotta talk first. Gee, what happens next? Rolling Eyes

There was a Leslie Nielsen TV show that was an Airplane parody style show that mocked TV cop shows called Police Squad and I remember a scene where he and a crook were shooting it out and they ran out of bullets and threw their guns at each other and all of a sudden you see a bunch of guns being thrown back and forth.

I tried to find it on youtube, but there's too many videos. It's filmed like the old 70's cop shows.
