This one is cool: Rolling Eyes because regardless of the fact that I almost never ever use it, it gets a strong point across.

This one : Laughing irritates me as well. The worst thing is that when you click the view more emoticons link, it shows a happy dead person's face.

Dave's reminds me of a little town that I've passed through a few times in West Texas called Stanton. There's a billboard as you enter the town that reads "Welcome To Stanton Home of 3000 Friendly People(and A Few Old Soreheads)." You can view the photo at http://www.stantontex.com/images/welcome-sign.jpg

I think most of the hostility on this board stems from the fact the posters who are posting here know most everyone else is out with the ladies, thereby reinforcing their fat virgin status.

I'm pretty sure I've used every emoticon Dave's offers at one time or another and I am also sure that's not where most of the hostility on here comes from.

All of the emoticons CAN serve a purpose when posting. But if someone's being a tool or a know it all and then they add one, it can make them all the more annoying.

I think words (along with their context) make a place hostile.

The mods may correct me, but I don't think anyone's been banned from Dave's over how they've used an emoticon!

Most of the hosility comes from the stress of many neer do well posters trying to convince the rest of the pinnensula's inhabitants that they are indeed not an economic refugee who basically had few options back home. I always get a kick out of when some esl monkey accuses me of being a loser who can't get a job or score chicks back home.
